Surprising myself here, but I like the cabs as is…interesting treatment with the dark stained molding.

You will have to check your codes. In my town I can’t have a window over a gas stove.

I wouldn’t replace the island with another similar island. It really looks like an island, just floating there. Look into something more interesting. Maybe a stainless steel piece.

Confused about replacing non-island countertops when you said the tan ones with integrated sink were fine (assuming Corian?).

JudyG; dream is to have white/light quartz countertop. Currently the island (which I hope to leave alone before replacing) has brown countertops and the rest of our countertops are a light tan which work okay with white.

Current island isn't horrible, but we think painting it white would be too much as the backside is facing living room. Also I worry about durability. Thus thinking leaving it as is while we move forward with the rest of our vision.

If we replace the island I think we'll have to cover the floor; as I think the hardwood isn't perfect underneath (even though the house is 12 years old)

I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you remove the island. The flooring is so nice, I would think the former owners didn’t cut corners.

I understand about wanting white cabs and I wouldn’t paint the island white.

Do you know the green on the walls? You could paint the island a darker tone of the green?????

All the changes you're making are exactly what I would recommend so good job. The island is up to you. Some like it a different color, some want it to match. If you're doing a different countertop on the island than the others I would say match the cabinet color. IMO it looks too much when there are two different countertops and two different cabinet colors, especially in a smaller kitchen.

JudyG, the walls are actually a light tan. The picture has the color wrong surprisingly. Thanks for the ideas!

Sina, I think vision is white cabinets with white quartz countertops ... and new white island with block wood top (or quartz which matches the other countertops.) .... a lot to do!

I think the plans you have will result into a very lovely space. However, depending on your lighting, the color you’re choosing for the cabinets might be a tad too stark. If it were me, I’d look for a softer white, there are lots to choose from and lots of threads here about the most popular options. Benjamin Moore’s White Dove comes to mind. You’re not limited to SW colors, each brand has the formula’s for other brands available to them.

Also, are your floors solid Cherry or just stained? If they are solid, Cherry has a tendency to darken over time even as soon as in the first year, a stain may show a slight difference in color as well. This is especially true if there is a lot of sunlight. And, if the flooring was laid after the cabinets were installed, there is a chance that it may not be carried through under the island so you may want to get those questions answered before moving the island.

I agree that the paint you've chosen may be too sharp and bright. There are a multitude of whites, find one that's a warm tone. Pure sharp white can look cold and

threers, light is currently off-center, thus I was thinking maybe we should wait until we get a new island to change the light (and of course make sure its centered correctly)

Good plan. If everything is going to be white, soften your white and put a color on your walls or you might feel like you're in an operating theatre.
