Personally, I would not do the penny tiles in the shower niche. I would keep the shower walls subway tile. Then, use the colorful penny tiles for the shower and bathroom floor.

You could use the penny tiles for the bathroom floor, or find a larger-format tile that coordinates with them to use.

I like larger format tile both for floors and shower walls since IMO the fewer grout lines the better, You could use the penny tiles on the shower floor I guess but with dark grout for sure

It is a good point about keeping the niches white subway tile, as apposed to penny tile in the niches. (I find this to be more sophisticated looking and professional in artistic appeal.) However, this is my VRBO and we attract guests from pictures of the VRBO. I was thinking it might help the bathroom standout in pictures. (Or should I take pictures of the detail in the flooring?) Or use the penny tile on the walls behind the sink? So many great suggestions everyone! Thank you!

How about putting the penny tile behind the mirror above the sink? Something like one of these below:

I agree. If they are only behind the sink and mirror it will be more dramatic but less maintenance than if they were on the floor or in the shower. Use a professional photographer for your photos to put on VRBO. It makes a huge difference and it isn't expensive.

Put the penny tile someplace where you can change it without having to rip out waterproofing for the shower. Behind the sink or on a wide mirror frame would be good.

Do you know how long the pennies will stay shiny before they tarnish? Your climate may affect the tarnishing rapidity.

I love penny tiles in niches! It's so fun and can be a statement, especially if you are using colorful ones. And they are great for floor since all the grout helps with slipping.

For the floor, I think you could go two ways.

1. Go big contrast with a large format neutral tile.

2. Use a penny tile in a solid color, probably neutral color. So it is the same surface and feel, but the color change delineates the two areas. Like the picture Glo posted above.

I love that niche that extends into the corner!

If I had a nickel for every time I've seen penny tiles used wrong...

That green/yellow mashup is the worst, except for the horizontal stripe-y one where they didn't plan the wainscot section properly.
