I'm in Central NJ too but it sounds like you're on the exact opposite side of the state! If you're on my side (Delaware river) there is palumbos in pittstown and Kingwood Gardens on RT 12 between Flemington and frenchtown is good too

I just answered you over on the exchange forum. I suggested Barlows in Sea Girt. The second was Morganville Flower Farm in Marlboro but I don't know if they do houseplants or not. I just know my SIL goes to both places.

Thanks all! I've driven past Julius Roehrs before but didn't notice the open to the public sign. I had thought they were only wholesale but I'll check them out. Barlow's looks promising as well judging from their website. Thanks again. If anyone has any more recommendations I'm all ears.

Not sure that all of these have what you're looking for, but off of the top of my head: Sickles in Little Silver (they have a greenhouse with many house plants), Molzon's in Lincroft (outdoor plants), Colonial Nursery in Lincroft (also outdoor, and may be closed for the season), RareFind in Jackson, Forcellati, Lanza's, and Holly Brook Farm in Wall, Gasko's in Monroe Township.

The name escapes me but there is a good greenhouse garden center on the South side of Route 206.....not sure if this is still in Hillsborough or further down but not yet Princeton.

Add Atlock Flower Farm in Somerset.

I love that one but not for houseplants. They do have tropicals at least in the summer. I don't remember a greenhouse there.

Diane, I love Atlock. Definitely a destination for tropicals but I heard they had a fire a couple years ago. I haven't been there since then, have you?

Loretta NJ Z6 Hi Loretta, I have not, but the daughter of a couple that I know works there, so they are still up and running.

Loretta- No.........further down on the opposite side of 206. Searching Google looks like it is calle Blooms of Belle Meade. They have a big glasshouse and a nice selection of houseplants. I do like Ambleside in the Spring/summer for some non typical annuals/tropicals etc. I didn't know Atlock had a fire. I stopped by Atlock this past summer (don't know exactly when) and it was very empty......weeds growing everywhere, nobody working so quickly left. Not sure if it was open and although after peak season it didn't seem like much was going on. Sad.

That's good to know, Diane. Atlock was at the NJ Flower show last year after taking a year off if my memory is correct. And Roger (who wrote the coleus book) left. I don't remember if he retired or moved on to another project. It would be hard to build it back up to its former glory. I will have to make a point and make a trip next year to offer support. I am truly honestly out of room here though but there is always something.

Woodnative, I will keep an eye open for Blooms of Belle Meade next time I'm down that way. There aren't any good houseplant sources up here either. Everyone has cut back, carry the same boring items or stopped completely.

There is another nice nursery on 206 close to Duke Farm on the other side of the highway but not for houseplants but will have tropicals come spring. It's called Bountiful Gardens, also in Hillsborough. And if you are ever up North in Chester, there is a very pretty garden store by the same name on Main Street. I don't think they are related.
