I just built this terrarium for my dad.

He had one when I was very young and it was happy and healthy for many years. Eventually the cork top broke, the terrarium dried out and everything died. I think my mother was the one who looked after it and after my parents got divorced all of the house plants suffered. My dad is now 82 and he just moved into a new apartment. We found the old glass terrarium when packing and he asked me to rebuild. The only problem is, I can’t find a cork stopper to fit it.

The old cork was about 4.75in round and 3/4in thick. I’ve tried Lowe’s, Home Depot, Michaels, Amazon, pet stores...I did find some large sheets of cork, that I could cut to size. But anything thick enough is quite expensive. Anyone have any ideas?

I also wanted to grow moss in there to cover up the soil and I really just love lush moss. I know that closed terrariums can have an issue with mold, especially when moss is present. I'm a plant enthusiastic and watch my plants carefully. I'm pretty sure I can manage the moisture level accordingly. That being said, I've never had a terrarium and I don't want to ruin it by putting moss in there. Any thoughts?
