Why do you think it's not Golden Tang. The shape of the flower is very close and if/when the color morphs to golden yellow??? I've never replaced the golden tang I lost many years ago. But this bloom looks right to me, perhaps a bit wider petals. If it's not GT, possibly closely related.

Which says it has mixed up ancestry, so there is no way of knowing exactly how every seedling that flowers by crossing Waikiki Gold x Richard Mueller will turn out.

Where did you buy it? Most orchid Nurseries are pretty reliable when it comes to name tags.

It’s grown by Waldor Orchids, but I got it from a separate vendor. I’ve gotten quite a few plants from Waldor and they’re reliable, but this label just seems off. Maybe since I got it from a third party?

There is a little problem of recessive genes.....like the one where children have red hair and the parents do not.

Your orchid is a seedling, raised from seed, so if every seed in a pod was raised to flowering size, each bloom would be different though most would be yellow because the yellow from Waikiki Gold is dominant.

Sorry, there is no answer to your question, if you buy from a reliable source, you have to trust the label.

Just a little more... I know google is unreliable especially in the area of orchid names, but the pics of Richard Mueller show great variations on colour.

My Golden Tang and other Golden Tangs shown at the local orchid society are all yellow, that is why I said the colour from Waikiki Gold seems to be dominant.

Anyway, your orchid is a keeper!

But, of course you do not know which Waikiki Gold was used to make your cross, maybe that one has slightly different genes to other clones used to make the cross.

My plant tag just has Golden Tang, it is a seedling purchased ages ago.
