Branch Dieback on Meyer

Last week I noticed a dead branch end of my poor Meyer. Today I noticed two more. Is it a result of being too close to the cold window? The apartment is usually between 60-65, but it's chilly near the windows (hence why I'm researching heating mats). I read that it could be caused by cold, lack of light, or disease.

The Meyer in question was full of fruit this spring, but then showed signs of water damage (curled leaves, that eventually turned yellow). I cut off all the lemons, but 2 that were largest and repotted to a much smaller pot to try and stop the root rot. It started dropping leaves, but at the same time growing new ones. It has since dropped all of the damaged leaves and has grown quite a few fresh ones, but they are all tiny. I'm hopping that it will make a full recovery this summer. I'm not going to let it grow any lemons this year and just focus on putting on some growth...if it survives the winter that is.

I would not worry about it. Just cut off the section like you did. They all periodically have a little. As long as it’s not happening often or on many branches, you’re fine.

3 branch ends in total, so far. I haven’t seen anything new. I know 3 isn’t a lot, but it’s a tiny tree. I put a light on it now. Hopefully, that will keep him warm enough. It’s really chilly in NY these days.

Hi Laura - I just got to work, so I’ll have to upload pictures tomorrow. This morning, I pulled out all my citrus and gave everyone a rinse in the sink and an inspection. This Meyer in particular doesn’t look great. I thought it was on the mend, but now some of the brand new, healthy leaves are looking a little gnarly again. It was my first citrus, so I’m sentimental about it. I’ll have pictures tomorrow. Hopefully, you’ll know what to do.

As requested here are pictures of my Meyer over the last six months. It breaks my heart and I’d love to try and revive this one.

May 24th

June 23rd-showing signs of water damage

Aug 10th-lost a lot of leaves, I reported to a smaller pot and made my MIL promise to stop watering him

Oct 4th-lost more leaves, but growing many new ones. Repotted again into smaller pot. Cut off all but 2 lemons

Oct 4th

Now-Lost all of its damaged leaves. Newer leaves are all small. Has some new growth, but some leaves are showing problems and there’s been some branch due back. I’m hoping it’s just because it’s been too close to the window and extremely cold here.
