I have no idea , what stuff you did not post a floor plan and IMO that blue is hideous, I don’t see the green so can’t comment on that. IMO walls are best left fairly neutral and your color can be added in small doses for accents that are easy to change when you get tired of the color.

You need to post much better pictures if you want advice.

take everything out of the room. put back only what you need. It's a small space, don't cram it with stuff and find a solution to those wires. draping them over the bricks is never a good idea. run them through a conduit or something you can see.

if you want a bold color, just do it above the fireplace,,,that color blue is the wrong shade and shouldn't be on all walls.

this is very similar to yours. this is how to do blue

spruce up the white on the brick, get a nice piece of wood for the mantle, and do a darker navy, or even a black, on the wall above. The other walls in the room should be a white, off white, or a pale gray.

first off the room is not finished so what you see was clearly not my idea to decorate a room that was my whole reason to get on here and ask for advice so i know where to place things like furniture and where to hang pitchers and what not before i do finish it some of the comments i have recieved in return i must say are so friggen rude its not even funny i sincerley hope you guy's do not speak to your clientele this way because i would want someone to be honest but in a proffesional manner of course, however thank you for some of the pitchers they might help a little.

Here are a few very generic pieces of advice:
Hang any art or clocks or mirrors at eye level (about 5' from the floor), or about 5" above the back of a couch or table.

Make sure any art you pick is large enough for the wall on which you hang it. Many people choose things that are much too small for the space.

For the mantle, find one big, beautiful picture that you love that is no bigger than the firebox.

Gather chairs and sofas into a small grouping that promotes conversation. Too often folks jam everything against a wall and then people sit too far apart to talk. Add table or floor lamps for pleasant lighting, and put a coffee table in the middle about 18" away from the seats that will use it.

What furniture do you have? I find it hard to tell from the photo whether the wood item is a desk or a table. I can't tell what the black or dark gray item is on the floor. A beanbag chair of some type? Is the room a dining room or more of a family room?

i will work on putting better pitchers up and have a friend take them as my hands are not steady, for furniture i have this huge bookcase that takes up all of one wall, i need a bookcase because me and my husband have alot of books but i was thinking something smaller that will not take up the whole wall and still hold all the books, also have a big tv and wanted to buy new chairs to place in there those were my ideas so far but wasn't sure

If the TV fits between the uprights of the bookcase you could put the TV inside the book case. I 'konmaried' [purged] my books and went from 3 6' bookcases to 2 quite easily, No more reference books never used. No more books for hobbies I'm no longer interested in and so on. It worked, haven't missed a single one! Keep that big case with the TV and add a couple comfy chairs across from it with a lamp table between the two and you have a cozy room for TV watching and reading. That's if the huge desk and office chair are going elsewhere. If they are staying best bet is to get rid of the bookcase and put shelving attached to the wall over the desk that surrounds the TV and holds your books. Then buy the comfy pair of chairs to put opposite the desk/books/TV.

As for the rich blue you like it works well as a frame for things hung on the wall so consider covering most of it up! As Carol mentioned things on the walls need to be at eye level of the viewer and best closer to the furniture beneath then the ceiling. If that clock is staying where it is now you would move it so it is about a foot above the top of the desk for instance.

Pitchers? Are you hanging glass, stoneware, crystal or plastic pitchers on the wall?

If its glass, stoneware or crystal , then you will need some substantial hooks or shelving

Love the fireplace but you need to repaint the walls to a different color like beige. You will need to prime first to cover that dark color. You don’t need an accent wall. It appears the wall to the left of the fireplace is green. Not sure. When you get that done, you will have a blank slate to add your art etc. keep us posted.

I disagree with all the posts telling the OP to repaint to some neutral color. We have no idea of her personality, and there are definitely people for whom peacock walls totally work. If she loves them, I say they're perfect.
So this looks to me like a living room? And connected to get kitchen. It has major potential! What are the dimensions of the room? Will you be using existing furniture, or looking for new stuff? If existing, what do you have, and what are the dimensions?
I love that you came here for help. This is (usually) a great place for amazing ideas, but it's easy to lose your personal sense of style when some comments are high-pressure. In the end, remember that the most comfortable dwellings are the ones that reflect their owner's personality...we don't all need to live in houses that look the same! partim,,,well, I don't know if ocotillaks was being facetious or not. But they seemed confused, hence my reply. as for the crystal ball comment, yeah, well,,that could have been skipped. Honestly, I think a lot of us who come here to help every day get tired of posters expecting detailed advice but not contributing to help. Whether it's lousy pics, vague info, ridiculous questions, etc. Sometimes we just have to wonder where in the hell common sense has gone. If i'm asking for help, then it should be plainly obvious the pictures (or pitchers) I'm inquiring about, should be good quality that gives the forum the ability to provide good advice. That's common sense. Sometimes it's just frustrating that people don't see that, hence, the smart ass comments. I mean, how many times have you seen, "what's a good gray wall color to go w/my brown floors and blue sofa?" Give me a break.

Op, if you look up the houzz photos, select living, then select blue for the wall color, you will see a lot of great designs using all different shades of blue on the walls. Since I can't really say where to place what since I don't know what you have I would first start with the designers photos and pick those photos that YOU like. I would also use the photos to select a color palette with colors that you like such as blue, green, brown and white to design around. Then think about that color scheme when you pick out the chairs that you mentioned along with other items that you may already have that could fit with your color scheme and the blue walls. It's easier to decorate with colors that you are drawn to and that will show in the end result. There is no wrong shade. It's how you choose to work with it that will create a beautiful living space.

IMO we worked with what we were given which was really nothing. The pictures were not helpful at all and then from that we are supposed to help. No info no help.

for those of you guy's that were rude take a hike i don't not wish to deal with sarcasm or rudeness , you are in a profession that requires you to be professional and have good customer skills , some of you are lacking, yes the pictures were bad not that is anybody's business but i have a health condition since i was 6 that on someday's causes my hand's to shake more day's than others at the time there was no one around to help me so i took the pictures myself, no wonder people are so messed up today when we live in a world with people like this, now the top picture is dark yes but i wanted people to see the curtains which are next to the bookcase, these are sliding glass doors. I do not wish to keep the furniture in these pictures i plan on getting new furniture and the bean bag will go as well i like the color and i think i can make it work with the right accessories any opinions that are not rude is welcome if your not sure of something just ask me, and as far as common sense goes in my opinion that is the same thing as telling someone there stupid and i was brought up that no question is stupid or asking for help if this is your attitude you should not be on here i would never pay someone to come into my personal space to fix it up knowing this is how you respond to people there are simply no excuses for it at all

i will take any good advice from anyone , and as i stated above i was unable to at the time and did state that i would ask a friend to help take better pictures. As long as people are not rude i will take any advice

Your bookshelf is a good looking piece of furniture and I would definitely keep it if I were you. My recommendation would be to put the TV in between the 2 bookcases - hope it fits! The advantage is that the TV could be placed lower, and it would be more comfortable to watch, instead of having it higher up above the mantle piece. Easier on the neck. Tree picture would go over the fireplace.

Buy a sofa which would face the TV and bookcase. I'm guessing you need to leave a clear traffic path to the sliding glass doors, so I'm not sure you have room for another chair in that area. If you do have room, swivel chairs are always practical because they can rotate to TV, fireplace or sofa. Add a piece of wall art above the sofa, that's about 2/3 as wide as the sofa. Hang it about 10 inches above the back of the sofa. Move your rug so that the sofa is centered on the rug, with the sofa feet a few inches onto the rug. Add a coffee table and floor lamps and you're done.

i thought about putting the tv in the middle of the bookcase but it won't fit, i would have to cut into it and separate them and i don't know that it would still fit so this was what i thought i could do, buy a smaller bookshelf that will fit everything on it that won't take up the whole wall and i could put a chair and ottoman with a small stand there on that wall, and then get rid of the bean bag, and where the desk is i would put two recliner chairs ivory color with a stand between them and coffee table in the middle of the rug.

Your bookcase probably comes apart without cutting it. Maybe you could still use one piece of it in this room.

manhattan home design, im not seeing the rest of your comment on here, and partim, the book case is in two pieces there is a top half and a bottom half.

Do the 2 side pieces detach from the middle piece too? As you can probably tell, I'm a big believer in using what you already have, if you like it. You could remove the center section completely, and push the 2 bookcases together. Set the TV on one of them. It would put the TV at a good height. You'd have the TV covering a bit of the lower bookshelves, but I think that would look fine.

But if you don't want to use the bookcases, ignore that suggestion!

I love the peacock blue! It is a strong color, so maybe your art and accessories can be more neutral. I would move the bookcase over toward the light switch, it is crowding the fireplace. I would keep the tv over the fireplace, but mounted on a pull down mount, so it’s easier to watch from seating. Will you entertain in this room, or is it more of a den? If it’s a den, a couple of swiveling recliners with a large side table between them, placed one opposite the bookcase, one opposite the tv. You’ll need lighting behind the chairs for reading. A floor lamp, or a large table lamp. It looks to be a smallish room, so if you want a sofa, I’d stay away from sectionals, and get an apartment sized sofa with tailored lines, and use one recliner. Keep that blue! Light green, white, pale cool gray, and antique brass accessories. And we painted the interior of our entry door the same color!

If your pieces come apart, could you remove the middle section and push the side sections together, then remove one of the bookshelves? You'd get this sort of look with the TV either sitting on the bottom part, or hung on the wall.

This would be a good time to cull your books. I've whittled down my collection and no longer keep books that I won't read again, or ones that are reference books that I can easily look up on the internet. The rest I've donated and feel good that someone else will be using and enjoying them more than I will.

Even if you get rid of a just quarter of your books, you can probably fit them all into one of the bookshelves if you sort them by size and go for a true "library look" of just books, rather than books interspersed with other stuff. Or maybe some books can go elsewhere in your house, or in the lower part of the cabinets.
