The fruit is low on the tree and I don't know what fruit you have. Just bumping your post up, so other citrus forum friends can see it.

Yeah, the only blooms I got were on the lower branches. That with the size of the fruit made me second guess if it was from a root stock. The leaves look similar, but I've read pomelo is sometimes used as root stock and can have very similar leaves. I guess I'm just going to have to let these ripen and see what I get.

Pomelo leaves have little wings on them.

I’d venture to guess that your rootstock is growing the fruit, not the scion. Looks like Cuban Shaddock to me. If it were my tree I would remove those 4 lower branches that look to be below the graft line and see what happens this spring when your tree blooms again. If nothing else it will encourage more top growth and give your lemon tree a more “tree like” appearance.

That does not look like a graft line.

The leaves do not look different.

Fruit grows on last year’s growth which easily explains why its growing from down low.

Dig out the soil from around the base and look for the graft line there.

Facts are facts and we havent even established if the tree is even grafted. Cutting off fruit would be a dumb move until the graft if there is one is identified.

I agree with pip....That little scar is not from grafting. I highly believe the tree is a cutting.... because graft cuts are not usually buried in the ground.

Brian, do you have the pot it came in? And if so is the sticker still on it?

just weighing in on this and based on the top pic, I'm not convinced it's grafted either.

I'd guess the tree is from a cutting. can you take some pics from different angles of what you think is the graft. A pic from the backside of it?

If it's grafted , the line will go all the way around. the top pic (to me) just looks like a branch was trimmed

Unfortunately I do not have the pot anymore and there really wasn't anything useful from what I remember any way.

Are these the little wings that you mentioned, Sunshine? If so, the whole tree looks to be pomelo.

Yes, the leaves have little wings. As Evan suggested, it might be a Cuban shaddock. I don't see a graft line, wait for the fruit to ripen and update us on the taste and look of the fruit.

The fruit looks like Cuban shaddock to me also. When it ripens and you cut it open and it's full of seeds and extremely beyond belief bitter, you will know for sure. My tree that grew Cuban shaddock rootstock was supposed to be a cocktail grapefruit.

I think it's a rooted Ponderosa lemon and not grafted. No way would I cut anything off that plant.
