Bench for Dining Room Table

We bought a dining room set many years ago when we lived in a smaller house. We are now in a house that is big enough for the table with all the leaves in it. However, we only bought 4 chairs for the sides originally and I can't get anyone. So I was thinking of getting a bench (see below) for one side and put the all the chairs on the other. Thoughts?? My husband has no vision so I'm having a hard time convincing him.

Please don't get a bench. They are soooo uncomfortable for guest to sit on let alone having to slide in and out of. People like backs on a chair for comfort. Benches are OK for picnic tables, but not in the home. Try to find some ladder back chairs that complements the ones you already own.

You could do upholstered chairs at each end and use the others for the side.

I have 6 chairs - the two on the end have arms (so I can't switch those out for upholstered chairs-though I love that idea. I really don't want to use those on the sides). And then I have 4 chairs with no arms (right now two on each side). I have been looking for chairs that somewhat match.

Put the 2 arm chairs in the corners of the room (if you can - can`t see the rest of the room) then get 2 new chairs (armless) for the ends. Don`t get chairs that somewhat match, it will look like you got 2 chairs that somewhat match. Get 2 Chairs totally different.

When you are seating 8, put the armed chairs at each end and the 6, (4 old and 2 new) 3 each side.

A bench is not comfortable. Nobody deserves to be stuck in a folding chair.
Find additional chairs in a similar style and color. Have the seats of all the chairs upholstered in the same fabric or two coordinating fabrics (if the colors match, they go together), maybe a geometric and a print.
I had eight chairs that matched my antique dining table, but occasionally had twelve or fourteen for dinner. I went to antique shops and used furniture shops until I found a set of six antique chairs in a color similar to my originals. My original chairs were covered in a floral print. I found a geometric fabric in the same colors and covered them myself. Now everyone gets a comfortable cushioned seat with a back.
