a freeze in z8?

define what you mean by getting down to a freeze ... i am sure it means something much different to me ...

in my world .. subject to what others say ... experiment ... move one.. leave one .. see what happens and learn ...

Ken you are right, not the same freeze you get ! ha. I just meant that it got down to freezing temps of 32. Although today is a balmy 68 ; )

bsmith, this is an ideal time to transplant in the Lowcountry. The soil rarely freezes and the root system can begin to establish itself now, before the stress of hot temperatures come to your area.

Do not top prune prior to transplanting, use a sharp shovel to chop the G. radicans from the existing location, don't add any amendments to the planting hole, and mulch well with pine straw or wood chips. Be prepared to water occasionally throughout the winter, spring, and summer, especially prior to the threat of freezing temperatures.

New roots may not appear on these until the next time top growth starts, if this latter won't happen until spring at this point then that is when significant root growth will start. And not before. Because this is the general pattern, at least with non-tropical kinds of plants that do not produce full flushes of new shoots throughout the year.
