Another Houzz Update!!!

Why can’t Houzz leave this app alone! This latest update is really just too much:((((! Photos aren’t posting on dilemmas! I can’t move photos around in my ideabook! Is it really necessary to save whole threads in an ideabook!!! Seriously!!! Who comes up with this stuff! Every time the IT guys mess with this it just makes it more frustrating for everyone!

    Molly....no....I check my spam every day. And months ago, they all came through with no problem, but now nothing.

    Yes, me too. It is a colossal set of failures. Never seen anything like it. I haven’t downloaded last update. Waiting.

    I just can’t understand it Flo! There aren’t any gains from these updates that I can ascertain and yet they keep doing them only to have more and more glitches with each one!

    Sure is baffling. No meaningful oversight or standard practices for beta testing before release. So frustrating!!

    Close out the app, and reopen gets them reloaded. PITA

    Mine aren’t either. I found that if you go to your safari and clear everything out ( swipe all recently downloads) then return to recent they are there! But you have to keep doing this every time more notifications are added because the new ones won’t load at all! It’s so annoying but at least you don’t have to keep deleting! I have no idea why this glitch has not been fixed yet!

    Eyal architecture- when I go into my Ideabooks on my laptop, I'm wondering rather than just having the Organize button up in the upper right corner that it could also show up in the photo under the 3 dots with the other options. It's a pain that if I'm looking at a photo way down in the book that if I decide I want to drag it to the top, that I have to scroll all the way back up to hit the Organize button and then scroll back looking for that photo again. It's not unusual for us to have 100's of photos in a book. Also, if a photo has to be dragged more than a couple of rows up, the site kind of goes whacky. I usually can only drag up a row up or two, have to drop it there and then grab it again and proceed dragging up but having to do this over and over until I get to where I want to put it. It's not a smooth one step move.

    Eyal architecture - On my laptop if I move any photos in my IBs' the whole book shuffles all the photos after I moved the photos. So what was at one time was a very organized book is now a mess. This recently has started. If you read my above post, those issues continue to be a problem. It almost seems that every time an "improvement" is made to the IB's, it opens a can of worms that only make the site more unfriendly.

    What is with the "new" messaging part of the website?

    I wanted to PM a user, and found this page...

    The New Messaging Experience is a big, huge nothingburger. There is no way to use it! Here is the "inbox" but where on earth do you click to initiate a PM?


    The only thing that is "live" on this blank page is the "Archived" menu, which, of course, shows nothing, and doesn't include a way to start a message to someone.

    Rred, your profile has no followers, and you are following no one. If we follow each other, we should be able to message. Did you delete followers?

    Nope, the message function is gone with mutual follows.

    Lad, the message function is on the web browser for mutual followers but not on the app.

    So I went to again follow rred, but it showed i already was. No idea why her profile shows no followers.

    Is there anyone here that might be able to assist. It shows I have received messages but I have no way to access them. Also all the mood boards I created are now where? Last as a Pro I would have asked this in the Pro Forum but I cant find that either.

    I just came on because I got a notification I had messages. Usually when I have messages its a lead or someone with a question so I always try to respond. Looks like they maybe changed the whole layout again and I am just not failiar with it?

    Messages and this “pro” something has everything screwed up. It’s making it almost impossible to follow up with potential clients or just communicate. Plus, to scroll and see something previously posted is a nightmare. Things keep bouncing back and forth and it is just terrible. Just so sad. And extremely frustrating for sure. Big, on going mess.

    Messaging with their "new messaging experience" is a nothingburger. One can only hope that they're working on a "seamless" way to PM and receive messages from other Houzz users, but for the nonce, it is not operational. There are no buttons to click on that take you to a messaging capability. See my post above from this am, Design Interior South.

    It's not just you, apparently...

    And thanks Lisa and Lad for looking at it from your angle. I can assure you, I follow peeps, and have followers. That used to be the "way" to PM with someone else... Perhaps it has something to do with my privacy settings?

    We’ll rred I didn’t want our fabulous hostess to think we abandoned her! When I went on the web browser and looked at Ladma’s profile there was a message button but I didn’t test it (maybe I will). But my sympathies to all the pros who are dependent upon messaging to conduct business. Clients can’t be expected to know all the Houzz work-arounds.

    My 2 cents is that unlike other companies, Houzz tends to do changes or add new things on the site while being visible to the users while they do it rather than wait and post it when they have it completed and beta tested. So that may be the case with some of this?

    Haoyu Chen- are you guys able to add a flag to a posted dilemma's by the OP? I know you can flag a comment in the post but I'm starting to see Dilemma's being posted that are more of an ad for the "Pro"/OP services. I believe this is not the goal of Houzz to have such post and there is no way to bring it to the appropriate peoples attention for review.

    Emily, I am up to date on revisions, but I have been having the app on my cell phone (iPhone pro 11) freeze up to where I have to go to another app or two then come back and try to get app to work. 50/50 successful. I am also preparing comments and they don’t “post” then I get screen saying “something went wrong”. BUT I also loose the entire post. No fun. Please get this attention if possible.

    I have a notification on my Messages that says 5. I don’t have any messages in my private messages! Is it possible I can’t access them on my phone or is this a mistake?

    Emily- thanks for pointing that out. I was looking for it in the same vicinity where the share, save, etc boxes are.

    Lyn, I had to go to the archives to clear the notifications. The dot was on messages from 2 years ago!

    Lyn, I have a notice on the app that says I have eight messages. All eight have been read and all were part of a conversation I had with Flo a couple of years ago. (Flo, I’m following that beautiful grandboy of yours!!!) Every message subsequent to that only appears on the web browser which I seldom use. No big deal for me, but a big deal for the pros.

    Thanks Lisa! It’s just odd that it has only shown up recently; all my messages are quite old and have already been read ages ago so that notification should not be there!

    Just re read the message, and the count goes away. Don’t delete the message.

    I have reread but the count never changes. Four of my messages are from Flo; the others are a mystery. It’s so odd that people with the same devices, same IOS, and same app version have such different experiences.

    I want to delete some ideabooks or individual photos but it is so labor intensive I don’t have time for it. Would do love if they would auto alphabetize the ideabooks. Scrolling thru over 1,000 idea books is just not practical. Many product pictures I have saved are no longer available so I want to get rid of them. But one at a time just doesn’t cut it.

    It took me a few days to clear the message notifications. There were different ones marked each day. So far so good…..

    Oh geez! After a bit of messing around with it it seems there is a “ new message “ board! In that new message board I had 5 “old messages! There is the ability to delete those on that board. But… I have a bunch of old messages from way back on my “old messages “ that is separate from this section that can not be deleted apparently 🤦‍♀️😂

    I’m guessing this “new message “ board is an upgrade that is a better and easier way for people to message each other on the app. It wasn’t so easy to do before! I guess All those much older messages are there forever!

    Hey there, I see people have other issues as well with the app and with the inboxes. I encourage you to please please please submit a ticket when something like this comes up, so it can be properly routed to the team that needs to take a look. These kinds of discussion threads are great for simple issues where you all can help each other, but if there are product issues you are seeing, it's most helpful towards working towards a fix / resolution if we get the tickets. http://help.houzz.com thanks!
