The CFL bulb will work, but expect it to only provide enough light for a square about 0.3 m on each side. You will need it no higher than 10 to 15 cm above your succulents.

Also, most lamp fixtures are designed to spread the light from the bulb over a large area. You will want to do something to help reflect as much of that light as possible straight downwards. I'm not sure what sort of reflective materials are available where you are, or what sort of lamp fixture you plan to use. It may not be wise to line the inside of your lamp with a reflective material, due to fire hazards or poor shape of the surface.

I would go LED over CFL thsse days. They’ve gotten the lumen output to finally be the same so with an LED, you’re using less power and producing less heat but getting the same light output.

This is something I wouldn’t have even said about a year ago. LED’s have come a long way in a short amount of time.
