Looking puny in early spring.

Looking fuller later in the season, but blooms do fade in my intense heat.

Looking pretty scraggly early in the season. I don't have photos of her later in the season when she pumped out lots of beautiful blooms that smelled terrific.

@modest- how is the scent with First Crush for you? And any thrip issues with her being a lighter bloom? I'm curious how she does for her with us being fairly similar climates...I have one on order for spring ;-)

Fragrance is strong. Spring flush lasted a month. Almost no blooms during the summer. Not sure why. A few fall blooms. Completely healthy. 2018 will be year three so I hope the repeat improves.

Oh yes, First Choice

Hi, I have just one to add Fragrant Cloud. This is the best photo I have that captures its color accurately.

I didn' realize that it had so much red in the color. Good capture.

Wow Kristine love that FIRST CHOICE. A mini? Not familiar with it. Very pretty. FREEDOM'S RING is not a good performer. Very stingy and doesn't grow well. It's in a semi-shady bed, but most of the roses in there do a lot better. It's definitely something different tho.

Beth, Ken has a really nice picture of First Choice on the multi color rose thread. It is its first year. I am hoping for great things. Mine came from For Love of Roses

Here's a seedling of Blue For You. I named it Fido because it is such a faithful bloomer. It has the health and vigor of Blue For You but so far isn't fragrant.

A seedling of Fourth of July which I named for my mother. Fran's Pirouette:

Excellent, Erasmus!!! That 4th of July seedling is incredible!! The flowers are exquisite!! So how old is the seedling? A recent one? I'm just wondering if you know how big the rose plant will grow? Your Francois looks amazing!!! Gorgeous!!

Your Blue for You seedling still has a bit of blue/purple in the leaves. Nice!

How is the fragrance for your seedlings?

Rosecanadian, thank you. Fran's Pirouette is approximately four years old. I can look it up, but that's about it, roughly. Mine is a shrubby plant about 3.5 to 4' tall, not a climber. It reblooms well and has a nice but not powerful fragrance. The blooms usually look similar to what's in the picture but I've seen some that are high centered. Fido has little fragrance but will see what it does this year. Fido is consistently pink, but I do see some purplish tones in the petals in the picture. I have some other seedlings I like but they don't start with "F". I just planted a couple of flats of seeds ...I harvested a lot of hips last fall. So far I have not done any crosses...these are open pollinated, but lots of fun, and some of them are worthwhile I think.

I really wish I could get hips to ripen on my tender roses. I would so love to do seedlings like you do. I did get an OP hip from John Davis...and it gave me a whitish (bit of pink and green (green on the base of each petal). I've had it growing in a pot, but I'm going to plant it outside this spring. I named it after my daughter, Holly. I call it Holly Bells....like jingle bells.

I like the name. It's fun to name them. You are certainly in a cold zone! Do the pots stay unfrozen in your garage?

erasmus - the soil is hard...but I don't think it's completely frozen. Although I haven't tried to dig into it. :)
