Design Within Reach sells very nice quality modern furniture, I love every piece I've bought from them. I've had mixed experience with Restoration. Room and Board is having their year end clearance beginning today. Quality can vary, but I've generally been very happy with my purchases from them considering the price point.

I bought online from Interior Define. Recommended by HGTV magazine. They will send you 5 swatches of interested leather/material free. The customer service was exceptional. Six months after receiving the Sofa, I did not do my homework & wasn’t happy regarding the down filler cushions. They sent me replacement cushions free of charge. Great company to do business with.

Where are you located?

We got one of our W.Schillig leather sectionals from Signature Leather in Paramus, NJ, and the other one from Ambiente International in Raleigh, NC. Both are contemporary, and IMO, stylish, and streamlined.

I really like some of the RH Modern styles, but they have SO many bad reviews. I also hate shopping in RH stores- that's not going to make my decision, but the experience is so awkward that I didn't spend a lot of time trying things out.

I love Bolia styles ( a Danish brand sold by a few US dealers) but have no information on them. Michael Felix is a small company in L.A. that handmakes everything. But they have very limited styles.

I had written off Room and Board- the only sofa style I liked had bad reviews. I have trouble finding the right combination of style and size with their options.

DWR is probably my first choice, but also the priciest.

You might give yliving a look. Its an online store based in California. Not sure how much overlap in products there may be with DWR. Also, DWR has an outlet store on ebay. I've never bought anything from the site, so I can't attest to that experience, but you could get lucky there.

I've shopped at H.D. Buttercup and Scandinavian Design, and I believe we bought our lounge chairs at SD.

Y lighting has bad reviews re:things being in stock and if a return is required. They failed to respond to a compliant on the Better Business Bureau site.

My problem with DWR is over exposure. The same mid century classics are everywhere. I'd rather have something different.

Stay away from Bo Concept. I don't like their quality and their prices are higher than warranted. Local stores have bad reviews for customer service.

Expect to spend a lot. If you want a sofa that's quality and will last a while, you're looking at $2k plus. This may seem like a lot of money, but consider buying one sofa that lasts 10-20 years, or buying a sofa every three to five years because it feels like you're sitting on a rock after the fluff has gone out of the cushions.

We try so hard in the US to find the best thing at the cheapest price, but the cheapest price is never the best thing. You don't have to spend $10,000 on a sofa, but expect to spend over $2,000, or what you're buying won't be worth the leather it's made from.

Oh yeah, Room & Board has a really good reputation and is made in the U.S. Also, don't buy anything from All Modern. That's the rock I'm sitting on right now.

I'm hoping to spend under $5000 but even that seems very, very difficult! The DWR style I like is the Reid-it's not a mid century classic reissue, but a more recent design.

I'm also looking at a few vintage leather sofas, but they are even pricier.

Thayer Coggin has two sofa styles - Spacey and Drop-in - that are gorgeous, but I hate to think what they would cost in leather. Not available through DWR, so they don't suffer from overexposure.

Look at the Raleigh sofa from DWR. It's really comfortable. Also, DWR has an ebay outlet and a couple of outlet stores. We sat on Room and Board sofas, and the leather ones weren't all that comfortable (although I have a leather recliner from Room and Board that is VERY comfortable and has lasted now for about 15 years). I agree that the Spacey and Drop-in sofas from Thayer Coggin are beautiful, but very expensive in leather.
