Francesco, thank you! As you can see, it's a deep, full red and I like the faint white dots near the base of the throat.

I have another one with red flower buds. Actually I have three with buds (red-flowering parents) but the third one will probably disappoint me. The buds are pale pink... :-/

I seldom buy adeniums but this one was supposed to bloom red. I bought it last year and now it's blooming for the first time. What a disappointment. It's pink... >:-( It will be sold or used as a rootstock.

I use Bonide granular systemic on all my non-edible potted plants and hardly ever see them. There are other formulations but this is the one I use:

Just sprinkle on top on the soil and water in. The plant takes the systemic in through its roots and becomes very distasteful to these suckers. A little goes a long way and one application lasts longer than the manufacturer's claims, even years on a covered porch.

Scale, mealybugs, aphids, thrips, mites, and ants go hand in hand and this island is a giant ant hill with 38 known species and subspecies of ants. Believe me, they and whitefly are everywhere.

A great alternative is to purchase Lacewings, Pirate Bugs, Ladybugs and set them loose on your beauties. They eat bad critters. My problem is there are also 38 species and subspecies of geckos, lizards, and iguanas on the island.

I won't even go into the frogs, including our mascot, the tiny, but loudly melodic Coqui:

I have never seen Ladybugs here, except where introduced to a greenhouse ... They never last. I don't know whether they're eaten or die from the high temps and humidity. Lacewings are definitely in my garden, as evidenced by their lovely little eggs suspended from their "needles" under my adenium leaves from time to time. Welcome kiddos!!
