Overwintering Streptocarpus

I've been buying streptocarpus plants in spring and treating them like annuals, but would like to see if I could overwinter some. I'm in zone 7. I don't have a greenhouse and my house doesn't have much bright light. Would they have to have fluorescent lights to survive indoors? I have overwintered a few tender plants such as caladiums and amaryllis by just bringing in the pots and letting them go dormant. I don't even water them in winter. I don't think it works to just let streptocarpus " go dormant" as they'd die?

Is there a good streptocarpus nursery in the US? Here is one I grew last year. It bloomed constantly. Any idea what variety it is?

    Your Streptocarpella is a tender perennial - you can overwinter it inside your house - hang it near the bright window. It propagates easily from cuttings - so if you do not have space for your grand specimen - you can take tip cuttings, stick them in a pot with barely moist African Violet soil and keep them covered - like with a plastic baggie - in 2 weeks they will root. Streptocarpella as any other Strptocarpus doesn't have rhizomes or tubers for the dormancy period - so you will need to water to keep it alive. It will probably will look overgrown - you can just trim it and it will branch up.

    There are several hybrid Streptocarpellas in culture - most widely grown is 'Concord', there a several white ones, the rest are purple blue with a little difference in tint of the flowers and leaves. Supposedly one of the best is 'Freckles' - extremely floriferous.

    The website for the nursery that carries a selection of Streptocarpellas is kartuz.com. It i located in Vista, California. If you will be in the area - go visit it. Otherwise - wait for the warmer weather and order from them. To everybody's regret MIchael Kartuz, the owner, hybridizer, collector of all things gesneriads, blooming vines and what not - and a very nice gentleman is getting quite advanced in years - so do not wait too long.
