On my screen that wall is reading raspberry! Are you looking for a lighter color or do you want to stay dark and dramatic? And will you be painting the baseboards?

Since you like dark colors, what about a beautiful teal? It goes well with buttercream and as far as I can see, both of your paintings have some blue / teal.

I' do a hot chocolate brown, perhaps even in venetian plaster. The brown will maintain the weight of the wall and compliment the buttercream color. look at the dramatic effect it has on a photo studio wall.

Its not so much the color that bothers me, although a freshup after 15 years is not a bad idea. What bothers me more is all the small pieces of furniture.. Get one cohesive piece of furniture to hold the TV and everything else on that bookcase - it looks like a homeoffice - this should be behind closed doors. Once you organize this area with one piece of furniture - you can then best access the wall color.

Have you thought of doing a light stencil over the red with the buttercream color? That seems logical since you seem to love the red wall. I think it would be beautiful, and make you feel like you have a different wall all together! Hope this helps!

Why not op for a nice armoire? You will be able to eliminate the bookshelf and the small table. It will hide the clutter while holding the TV and stereo and will help to keep your space neat and tidy.

I agree that teal would be a fresh color that should work well with the surrounding colors.

Totally agree with Pat! Everything looks off balance. Even the wall art appears too low. Personally I like the raspberry color but the disorder accents it in a bad way.

I see a pass through - Is it a kitchen on the other side of that wall? I think it's time to loose the red - too dark. I like the other idea of a teal if you're trying to match a buttercream color. Or possibly an orange color. Then re-arrange the furniture. I personally don't like TV's on a blank wall, I prefer them by a window. I just hate staring at a wall! This way during a commercial I can look out the window, or if the TV is off, I can sit comfortably and look outside. Then either put a credenza there, or look for a tall storage unit that has some other interesting quality about it, like a hoosier cabinet, or closed storage on the bottom and open storage/glass doors on the top. Or if keeping what you have, paint it white to lighten up the area, or a complementary color - like orange or yellow if you paint the wall a shade of blue, or turquoise if you paint the wall orange. Thanks for the comments, everybody! I'm getting rid of the bookcase and getting a piece that will hold all the electronics (I hate looking at those cords). And I have some paint swatches in the blue, green, and ochre families taped to the wall. We'll see what works in different light. I really appreciate the ideas - they've got me thinking!

Just to follow up: I'm going with Kerry Blue Terrier MSL161. All furniture on the wall is going away and being replaced with a closed-front credenza (Overstock.com is my friend!). Getting there, slowly but surely. Thanks for all the ideas!
