Elephant Ears Runners

Hi guys,

I’ve got some elephant ears which are producing runners at a crazy speed (all 4 runners visible in the pic below are less than 3 weeks old, one of them is about 1m long!!), but as they’re not in soil I’m wondering about their viability/if there’s anything I can do to encourage them to root/produce plantlets? I’m guessing that they won’t do this out of soil & will keep growing in length until they find soil?

If I was to just place a pot of soil under each visible ‘node’, will they then begin to form as plantlets? I’ve circled in the photo what I am calling ‘nodes’, though I assume these have a proper name specific to this type of plant! Anyone with any experience with these would be greatly appreciated as this is my first summer with these plants...

(Excuse the mess in the photo - storm came through these last few days so everything is a mess! Sorry for the bad photo too!)
