Great report! How cool would you say your winters quarters are on average for your citrus plants?

Nice looking grapefruit. I am glad to see that something as large as a grapefruit can be grown on a potted tree. Gives me hope for my Valentine pomelo. My pomelo tree will be planted outside next spring.

Thanks Steve and Dave! Dave, the room that tree is in goes down to 55 most nights. I purposefully rig it that way bc I was trying to color up the blood oranges. During the day it goes up upper 60s to low 70s ideally (68 currently). When we are having warmer weather outside, it can get pretty warm in there bc of all the lights, but I open up a few windows and run the ceiling fan to cool things down as necessary. I have a digital thermometer in there, so I am pretty confident with those numbers. As you know though, summers here are quite hot and muggy, which I know grapefruit trees like. The tree is a grafted tree from RB that I bought locally and is maybe 5’ in the container. That was the smallest of the fruit left...the others are as big or bigger than those in the store now.

I'd say you are fortunate to have that degree of temperature control in your room!

Dave...it’s real scientific...I leave the sliding glass door open a little more or less depending on how cold it will be that night ;). My thermometer registers the lowest and highest, so I can verify.

Yum . Laura is Ruby Red the same as Ray Ruby or two totally different cultivars . I have Ruby Red hope the fruit turns out the same .

WOW Laura! Thank you for the information! I am more confident now about growing grapefruit in my climate. During winter, I grow my trees in a grow tent where day temp are around 75-78 and night temp are around 62-65. Do you think that’s alright?

Amy, I would suspect it should be fine. Brian, I’m not 100% sure, but I think they are quite similar...mine may ba a little less red, but I think the flavor is about the same from what I read.

Looks delicious, Laura! It is amazing that you get beautiful large citrus fruit in containers. I have 4 seedlings of grapefruit for rootstock, in the store the info for the fruit was " Florida red grapefruit " and the code is 4027. Does anyone know what exactly they are? Out of 4 plants 3 seedlings are polyembryonic.

Thanks Laura I thought that Ray and Ruby Red were very similar . I have a few small fruit on my Ruby I hope they turn out just as nice as yours.
