Your color palette can be the same throughout or complementary. Which do you prefer? What colors do you like? What region of the country do you live in, and what's the natural light like through the year? My preference is to keep the open areas all the same color.

Light curtains would be lovely. And you could do the same or co-ordinating window treatments in the family and morning rooms. You could have either the same or co-ordinating curtains, or have curtains in one and co-ordinating shades -- for example Roman shades. Or go with bamboo blinds, which pretty much go with everything : ) .

For your kitchen table light, can you take and post a better picture of one of your island lights?

You have a lovely home! And congrats on the bump ;-)

Palette: you can paint the rooms in your home in different colours but it's always nice to have some continuity by keeping all the trim the same. The white trims are lovely and fresh, so adding softer tones (maybe warmer tones since you don't have a lot of direct light?) or even darker colors in some rooms to create depth. As per Becky's comment above, it's better to keep open-plan rooms the same.

Windows: light curtains are great. If you want a farmhouse look, go for linen or light cotton that frame all those glorious windows without taking away the light.

Lighting: Again, since you want a rustic farmhouse look, I would suggest a wrought iron chandelier or something that has a bit of old-world charm to it. Something similar to the pendants above the counter can also work, but to really make an impact it will need to be much bigger.

Ikea has some great, inexpensive 100 percent linen curtains (about $60/pair). The Aina line comes in white, natural, gray, and aqua, and there are one or two other lines as well.

You could probably choose just about any paint color. What wall colors do you like? You said it's new construction, so do you just not like the builder's choice? All that said, I'd be very hesitant to jump into something like gray for the walls as well as too much "farmhouse rustic", both of which are very popular trends heading toward the end of their trendiness.

Your island lights are so neutral that just about anything would work with them. What's your budget?

A really nice way to have contimuity with a bit of variety is to choose, perhaps, three different depths of the same colour for the walls. But in the open-plan area, stick to one colour I think. For example you could then carry that colour along the passage, perhaps use a darker version for ... a study? bathroom? and a lighter one for the bedrooms. All depends on what works best for the individual room, lighter or darker. An exception can always be the bump's room. And any other bumps' rooms you may want. Kids have a right to rooms in colours chosen especially for them. At least in an ideal world, they do, and I'm sure you'd like your world to be as close to ideal as possible.

Echoing Colville Design, something like this (Livex, $200 at Home Depot) would be nice -- it suits the current rustic farmhouse aesthetic but it's also timeless,
