Kitchen/Dining lighting HELP!

Hi All! I am wanting to change out the lighting in our kitchen/dining area. As you can see, I like the farmhouse style, as well as we live on 5 acres on a hobby farm :) But, I'd like to give a more modern, customized feel to our *builder-grade* kitchen. We are planning on doing a backsplash as well, so suggestions are welcome! Do you have any ideas for lighting to brighten and make the space look better?

Thank you Design Directives for that wonderful post! I have 4 children and we homeschool, so we really use our home, so it's nice to hear that it looks clean (sometimes..haha) :) I do have over cabinet lighting, I just hadn't put that on when I took the pic. The island is finished in reclaimed barn wood. I do have a large bench for the island and thought about sewing two large ticking pillows to soften the space. We don't have the money to replace the countertops because we are getting ready to put a screened porch on the home. Can't I just take that piece of the countertop off? It's not connected to the base piece other than perhaps some sort of epoxy or glue.

Would this look good over the table?

I would consider this one at the table.

And at the island are you wanting to keep the 3 pendants so you have no ceiling repair most likely? Here is a pendant that looks like your style.

Wow Astonia Stone..those pendants do look good with the countertops and cabinets! Do you think it would brighten it a bit in there given everything is so dark? I was thinking like you and having glass pendants, but yes keeping the 3 so we don't have any repairs in the ceiling.

I would also recommend switching to granite before you tile. (Obviously I would)

Not that tile, but the matte black Opalescent on the perimeter and a creamy granite with some movement on the island. This one is Blanco Persa.

It would and you would have less yellow glow. I would not use the edison bulbs on the island- but they do make LED edison bulbs that do not give off the yellow tone :)

Which one do you think would be better over the table? The open one or the one with the 3 downward lights?

    I like the open one

I also liked these pendants, but don't know if they will fit with the space.

I like this too because it's open (and very inexpensive), but don't know if it looks right.

Also these I like, but having a hard time seeing what will look good. I do love the rectangular chandelier, but it's so outside of what I would normally buy (but that could be a good thing).

    Hey Tanya,

Typically we recommend to do different but complementary styles for the dining and island lights. It makes it much more interesting.

In addition to hand-building copper and iron chandeliers, Bevolo also sells some vintage/new lighting pieces. We also offer a complementary design service and can scale out the proper size fixtures for your rooms, based on your photos with ceiling height/table and island dimensions.

Check out some different styles below that coordinate nicely together for your look.

Let us know if we can help you at all. Happy decorating! -Lindsey @ Bevolo
