Help spruce up closet

Hi everyone, I would like to spruce up the closet we made over the garage. Anything I do to the walls and ceiling is going to be a real pain because of the pitched roof and because the shelves are already in place. Wondering if I should paint or do wallpaper etc. I do love pink but as a grown woman just wondering if that’s the right choice. I did think about painting the whole thing a pale pink and getting some pretty flower decals for the ceiling or something but I want to look classy and maybe glamorous. Any suggestions? Thank you

The rug in the middle I think would look better larger. How about some woven bins in different sizes? I'd get quite a few; especially for the two largest spots at the floor on the right. It would pair down the visual noise of all the individual items. What about organizing by color for each item/section? I'd get creative that way. Consider using darker color items toward the bottom and lighter ones at the top. It would balance it better visually.

    Nice space!

Love your closet. I like Shee's suggestions. A bigger rug. Break up the space a bit. Bins are a great idea or add some drawers. Replace your mirror with a cheval mirror or a big picture frame mirror.

    Like the large mirror idea.

The framed jewelry holders by the chair, I think they would look nice stacked vertically to the right of the chair. I'd space them about 2" or so apart and have the middle of the arrangement about 60" from the floor.

Well I guess I should have used a more recent picture, this was taken a little while ago. There is a new rug in there which is much bigger, the frames by the chair that hold necklaces are gone and everything is on the shelves and on hangers according to colors and longsleeve, short sleeve, sleep with etc. I’m really looking for wall color recommendations at this time. Thank you

Oh, I got the impression from your initial post that you like the idea of a new color but thought it would be too much work and that you were looking for other ideas. I think white is a good choice for a closet because it won't fight with the different colors of the clothes. A strong or dark color might cast undertones.

Tone on tone, floral or foil decals on the ceiling might glam it up.

I thought that wallpaper might be too difficult, not paint as much. And yes I did think of putting some decals maybe on the ceiling. I love that first one you have that looks like cherry blossoms, where did you find that? Thank you

I wouldn't do anything on the ceiling, since they look low. Wallpaper or paint will only draw attention to it and make it feel lower. Leave the ceiling white. If you choose wallpaper for the wall go with something light colored or metallic to reflect light.

The last two that have a rosy undertone but are not baby girl pink. A very pale lavender might work as well and purple shades are "in" for 2018 so you should be able to find a light pink or lavender.

I recommend getting the canvas organizer Closet Maid cubes. I repurposed a bookshelf, and my carpenter added trim when he fitted my closet.

    Here are my cubes https://www.wayfair.com/storage-organization/pdp/closetmaid-cubeicals-fabric-drawers-clop1233.html

ClosetMaid makes other colors and styles of drawers/cubes.

The cubes made the open shelves much more usable, too.

You say you're leaning towards a pink themed room ... perhaps a print would look more "mature" than a simple pink wall. I like this example:

Or let another color take the lead while pink is the accent. I've had this closet's picture in my inspiration pictures for a while, and its wallpaper looks a whole lot like your chair:

The ceiling is perhaps the most prominent feature of your closet -- you can't ignore it, yet too much color on that ceiling could overwhelm the space.

I agree with those who say you need a rug. The carpet is kind of blah and is doing nothing for the space. Ditto for the ottoman; I'm sure it's functional, but it's dull -- could it be recovered?

The mirror on the back of the door is underwhelming -- small and plain. A larger mirror with a heavy gold frame would look great, but, if that's not possible, perhaps you could add some molding to this one as a stop measure.

Not meant to be mean -- mine's way worse: We all like pictures of these fantastic closets, and one thing they all have in common is that they are neat as a pin -- clothes perfectly folded, neatly organized.

As a part of that, I'd look at some baskets for the things that're difficult to keep corralled -- and they'd temper the glam-feminine-pink. Imagine wide, shallow baskets like this for folded items:

Mrs Pete thank you for your comments. I’m guessing you did not read my message above where I said there is a much larger rug in the room now, I have a large leaning wall mirror LOL the room was a bit disorganized when I asked this question so I did not want to take a new picture. I was mainly just concerned when I posted about what to do with the walls but then everyone started to comment about everything but the walls LOL so I did not think I had to show a new picture with a larger rug and mirrors etc. What you see in this picture is what I was using that I already had when we moved into the house.

If you want to paint your closet pink, why not paint it pink? The only good reason I can see not to go pink would be if you share the closet with someone who would object to the color. Little girls don’t own pink. What I might skip is the flower decals. Those wall decals always make me think ‘kids room’.

Also, it’s not like many other people would see it. A closet/dressing room has got to be one of the most private spaces in your house, so you should decorate it in a way that pleases only you. From what I can see of your clothing, you like color. Why not indulge a little?

another good reason to use pink- light bouncing off pink walls casts a nice glow that is flattering to most people. Personally, I painted my bathroom pale pink. I love it.

What a dream-come-true closet! There are same fabulous large scale wallpapers that might work in your space. Also, maybe a pink silk string cloth.

OOPS! Sorry -- you were asking about the walls, but I thought cubes (in a color for your plan) would give you the sense of color on your walls by using the cubes for your shelves.
