You can try painting the wall something like the following picture:

It reduces the contrast that the tv has against the rest of the room and lets you continue the rhythm of the walls.

I realize that this is an old post but if you haven't found a solution or are willing to make a change, for an inexpensive way to address the issue, take a look at Samsung's "Frame TV". The TV has an art mode that lets you display photos from their own collection of stock images or you can upload your own images. This is all done via your smart phone app. The art mode brightness automatically adjusts to the room's ambient light so it always looks natural. It's a fairly new product and we have been using these TVs to address your very same problem. However, they are available only in 55" & 65" - the 55" screen measures 48" x 28". The TV sits flush to the wall so it looks like just another piece of art. check out the link below.
