Is anyone having success with other oak species in the valley? I have 2 med. large live oaks, but I'm looking to grow more species. I ordered a chinkapin oak, mail order, from Texas I think. From its description, the species can tolerate alkaline soils. I'll keep you posted.

Also, a few years ago I had a healthy holly oak sapling growing in part shade. Then I moved it on the west wall of the house and it suffered and died once the heat set in :(
