Normally grooming includes keeping your AVs clean, removing older leaves - they usually have pale reverse and pale petioles - and repotting every 6 months. If you repot every 6 months, slicing off half inch from the bottom of the root ball - and potting it a bit lower to cover the bare neck - you usually can avoid cutting off and rerooting the crown. Removing the suckers - or plucking them if you like the word - is also grooming.

When you prepare your plant for the show - you need to track and remove baby leaves - the size of these leaves is smaller - than the leaves above it - and you need to remove the whole whorl of 3. If you are not into Shows - just let them be.

With good culture you do not need to pluck any leaves - unless your cat dropped the plant and broke some. If you give the plant enough space so it doesn't touch anything - it won't be turning leaves. If they become too tight - you reduce the light. Yo can give them a spa treatment - put a plant on a tray with a wet towel on the bottom , cover with a dome- and put it on a lower light. The higher humidity and lower light - will make the plant stretch the leaves in several days.

Some AVs always look up, some always hug a pot - and some always put leaves sideways - Gillian is one of them. But it is just the way they are.
