I don't recommend black counters, they show every little thing and will look dated. I recommend white porcelain or quartz slabs. Good luck to you, hope you enjoy the end result. Happy New Year!

Agree with using a white or near-white, as having dark for both counters and backsplash will make your room into a cave. Cambria Newport might be a good quartz for your cabinets and floor -- it's just a bit warmer than white, and has a faint visual texture up close. That's what I have, although I went pale gray for my backsplash.

white, cream would be fine, but black would look really good. if you did a honed or leathered finish on a black granite, it doesn't show every crumb or water spot like polished.

black looks really nice w/wood tones. You could always do a cool white backsplash,,

for white granite,,,

White Ice

and a leathered Princess White

then you could do a cool glazed black tile

rim,,,,here is a polished black counter w/wood cabs and a blue gray subway tile. I still like a leathered looking granite, but this gives you an idea.

I did cherry cabinets and polished black granite because I thought I liked the rich look. I now hate my counter tops and I'm looking to redo them now. I'm switching to a white or possibly a light Fantasy Brown granite/quartzite.
