Thanks Ben - that looks very close! I generally don't even bother looking for answers to my NOIDs as I always hear arthurm2015 in my head telling me that it's nearly impossible to find it without a tag.

Hi Suza, it is nearly impossible but some of those mericlones are widely produced and grow well and they are on the market for years.

I think you can change the tag with confidence to Aliceara Everglades Sunshine.

The latest renaming by the RHS mostly makes sense because they have reduced the number of species orchids* and in the long run made things "simple", but there are a couple of thousand pics on the local orchid society photo gallery that I have no hope of going through and correcting all the Genera Names. Will take years.

Anyway, congrats for great growing and lovely blooms.

*Added via edit. Got rid of many species variety names and moved Genera into Cattleya and Vanda. Similar with the Oncidiinae Sub tribe. Many Genera no longer exist, hence the many changes to Intergeneric Genera Names.

Here's the one I picked up at TJ's yesterday.

With and without flash. During the day it looks more red but this evening it's very deep purple. The leaves/sepals are deep and rich.

I need to work on my flower photography skills. Any tips on angles and whatnot?

Red purples still seem to give problems even with digital cameras. I am not the Orchid Society Photographer and there are not good conditions for taking photos in a dimly lit church hall. Take one flower pic. or the whole lot???? Here are a few from the last meeting, no doubt a some ended up on the cutting room floor.

There is a little problem with google.....the pics are great but the orchid names are often incorrect. Colmanara is like the dodo and Masai Red is very suspect.

Similar comment about Oncidium Hula Hulau Volcano Queen. The "correct plant " but the name is suspect.

The Database is kept in England and it costs Ten English pounds to register a hybrid. Forget about Colmanara and just put Masai Red in the Grex Name search and see what comes up.

There was a lot of work done recently by botanists and they reduced the number of Genera. Long term simplification, short term confusion.

I might be wrong, but Midnight Miracles might be the correct name.

From my understanding, this hybrid was created by a Dutch company (as "Masai Red") that had originally withheld the parentage. I read this in a rabbit hole on The internet so I can't voucher for how true it is.

The only thing I've been able to find on this plant is under MasaiRed. When I typed in Masai Red on your website it brought up one result "Colmanara" and "Masai Red". When I look at pictures of the Midnight Miracles, the flowers look different (green on the tips of the sepals or white on the lip; maybe this is a case of two different seedlings from the same cross?)

If you search the two names, they have different registrants.

Sorry, I was saying that Scientists (Botanists) are the reason that Colmanara no longer exists. That is they reduced the Number of Species Orchid Genera. Colmanara was the name for a certain mix of Genera one or more of which no longer exist.

The Masai Red bit is I think human error, the name was registered with same parents as Midnight Miracles and someone probably made a clerical error at the RHS and let it through. Lots of probablys.

As far as looks like goes. There are many seeds in an orchid seed pod and if you grew and flowered every one of the fertile seeds you will get lots of variations in the shape, colour and size of blooms.
