Range or double oven??

I am renovating my kitchen and am trying to decide between a range or cook-top/double oven combo. We will be moving in 5-10 years and wonder which would be better for resale. Range and cook-top would be gas with electric/convection ovens. Full disclosure, I have another range in my basement that I use only at Thanksgiving when serving 20+.

You lose 33” of counter space and cost yourself an extra 7-10K by choosing a wall oven over a range. Which is why it is only a choice for a larger more upscale kitchen.

Remodels lose money. They do t make money.

I have both an all gas range and electric double wall ovens. IMO if you have the space go for wall ovens for sure . The reason I have both is I like some things baked in a gas oven

Depends on what your space looks like. How big is it? What is the layout? Where are the main walkways and doors? What style of kitchen/home are you going for?

With some more information, its easier to provide recommendations and ideas. :D

Get what works for your cooking. Possible resale is too far out to live with what might be trendy in the future. :)

Interesting article about newer appliances not lasting nearly as long as previous appliances

Only you know your neighborhood and what will help with resale. Only you know how you cook as well. Personally i have a range with double ovens below and love it. The smaller oven preheats so much faster than the bigger one. It is convenient to have both for holidays or if I’m cooking at two different temperatures - making a quick batch of cookies while dinner is baking etc. bending down to lift out a roasting pan once a year is fine with me. i cook a lot for my family of 6 but don’t particularly enjoy it nor do i aspire to be any kind of chef or baker lol so it’s perfect for me.

If you cook, get the double ovens. I had a 48" thermador range with two ovens though the left one was only 12" wide or so. In my last townhouse they put in double wall ovens and I loved it. My kitchen under construction will have double wall ovens (bosch with the sideways opening door for my short wife) as well as an advantium and a warming drawer.

If you can swing it, double ovens and separate range top. You get the best of both worlds, electric/convection ovens and gas or induction cooking surface. If one goes bad, you don't have to replace the entire unit. Don't expect to get the full amount of your remodel out of the home. Rather, plan on enjoying the benefits of the decisions you make.

I agree with the double oven. As I watch my mom getting older, I can’t imagine her bending down to manage something in a range oven. She designed her kitchen 40 years ago and it was recently redone, but all the cabinets stayed in place. She designed it right the 1st time.

We're remodeling our kitchen too and are thinking about putting in a gas range and an electric wall oven. That way I have a gas oven and an electric oven.

That is a brilliant idea! Some cooks like roasting in gas and baking in electric.

I would love a wall oven. I've never had one, but I have been in kitchens that had them, and they seem so much more convenient. I am not crazy about the double-oven ranges - they are actually a bit hard to open, my BF has one and I just get annoyed with it.

A dual fuel pro 36 GE range, and a GE Advantium microwave in a wall /pantry built in. Unless you run a catering business. Two AMAZING appliances.........and that is based on reviews from client using both.

This discussion should be in the Appliance forum. In that forum the choices would be induction range like the Bosch Benchmark or induction cooktop with a steam oven like the Miele XXL as the wall unit. So who knows what will work for resale in the future.

Chess- Mine isn't hard to open at all... and I like that the people can easily pass behind me when just the smaller oven door is open. The oven came with our house so it's at least 5+ years old. I think it's a good option when you don't want to sacrifice counter space or spend the $$ to do separate but you like the convenience of having 2 ovens. But like everything it probably depends on the brand and quality.
