Dave, I forgot I had One Last Dance. I'm expecting it to be a beauty. Beautiful Orange Marmalade - mine kicked the bucket! Gary, I love the dainty flowers on Oshima Silk.

I get impatient for On Stage in spring. I'm going to move it to a warmer micro-climate to try and get it going a little sooner.

Thanks for the chuckles Paula, I liked the one about the tennis balls. We have 2 dogs and throw multiple tennis balls, but they always know which one to bring back and will keep looking for it even if there are other balls around (and even when the other dog already brought it back).

Wow, I've seen On Stage before, but it never made the list (until now).

My O-hosta, Ocean Isle. I have had it for 4 years and it has yet to make a nice clump, but it has a really nice leaf.

I just noticed Hollywood Lights was a sport of On Stage, which I got in 2016. I was probably thinking its close enough - but its not, lol! That was the last one up for me by a large margin.

(And please don't tell anyone about Cory's Sweetheart. I'm hoping to finally get it this year).

Thanks Steve! Sadly it’s quite accidental...most of my hostas have LOTS of companions. Some look as though I planted them with a shoe horn!

I divided my Orange Marmalade into 4 in 2016. It was beautiful...I gave 2 chucks away and keep 2.

this is in the "anything you want" category..I don't have any O hostas..

I only have On Stage- new in 2017. It came in the mail and I potted it up and had to keep it on the porch for a while. When it started to infurl... it literally took my breath away. Pictures don’t do justice to so many of these beauties!

Very impressed with the On Stages....some beauties!! OD, that's an outstanding obsession.

Here’s two views of OnStage that are a little different.

StevePA6a don’t bother moving it to more sun. I dug this clump up yesterday along with everything else in the Dragon bed and brought it to the new bathtub bed to heel it in. I couldn’t tell the top from the bottom when I took it out of the wheelbarrow! There’s not an eye or crown visible, not even a nub to feel to tell which side was the top of the clump. Hope I guessed right! I guess it takes forever to show up in the spring because it has so much work to do before it can even break ground.

Old Glory — half the size of last year and will be dug up soon to be root and vole proofed.

I have Orange Marmalade (which I love) and Orange Star (just found it tucked under a very old Frances Williams I had in the back. I will have to move it this year and see how it grows. I also got Oh Cindy which has done very well in my yard.

I have a question for Kathy. What is your vole proof trick? I am looking forward to spring but with a bit of fear. I didn't do much last fall about anything and know I will have vole damage.

zkathy, I'll just be moving On Stage to the south wall of the house, so it's in a spot where the soil warms sooner, and then it's shaded by a tree in summer.

So since McT brought up voles, I wanted to share my strategy, which works very well for me, with constant monitoring year-round. I buy these traps at the Big Box hardware stores.

Both of the last 2 weekends have been warm here, so I was out looking for vole trails. The first weekend I found a BIG vole hole, so I put my trap, with half a peanut for bait, by the trail, with the pot covering the trap and the trail, making sure there was room under the pot rim so the little #%@* could easily get to the trap. Next day BINGO, I had a vole the size of a small chipmunk. This past weekend I found 2 plantagineas, who's roots were pretty much gone. Set trap, next day, BINGO again. Another vole the same size. Such a sense of accomplishment!

I did water my beds with castor oil last fall, but I’m afraid every Hosta in my garden will eventually be in a pot or a spin out bag with a stainless steel mesh bag around it. Because I have raised beds with rock sides, the voles can sometimes get in my garden beds without making a hole in the dirt.
