Maybe I can take a few of the little plants at the base that are rooted. I just don't want to disturb the Mom plant. It gets literally thousands of blossoms every year. The vine is covering my bathroom window, and makes it difficult to clean, so it needs a trim...

ALL type 2 and 3 clematis benefit from annual pruning. It keeps size in check, brings the flowering down to a viewable height and tidies up all the dead wood and foliage and keeps the vine from becoming a tangled mass. And I would also agree that propagating clematis from cuttings is possible but not at all easy.

I have watched video after video on how to line out clematis. Don't have any issues with anything really but Clematis. I wish someone here could help us both - what is the secret to this? it's driving me crazy? I have so many Clematis and can't figure it out? It looks so simple yet they don't root! help!

Thank you everyone for saying this. I have tried for several years to do this and I haven't done it yet. I've watched videos of it, which looks so easy, but it hasn't been easy - plus they don't line out like regular plants. It's kinda tricky for me. I hope someone figures it out

Air layering them seems easy...they do it naturally when unpruned in my beds.
