Nice house you have a very clear idea of what you like so now start by purchasing the larger have to have things first. I would stay away from sectionals and go sofa 2 chirs . I love DWR for MCM pieces but certain things you really need to sit on so find a shop in your area that has what you are looking for. I have bought some items fromCB2 that have stood up well and are very comfortable like the chairs in these pics.

Chic MCM - scour Craiglist and antique stores. You want real wood, real leather, real linen, real stone, real wool, etc. High quality textures. Better building a few good pieces bit by bit than a whole lot of less quality things that will feel dated soon.

Here are some steps to get started so you don't feel overwhelmed:

1) Pick your anchor furniture first. (Sofa, coffee table, dining table, TV console, etc.) This will help you to determine the style of the room.

2) Pick your area rugs, wall hangings, curtains, etc. to complement the furniture.

3) Test them in the room for a week, and anything you don't like, return or exchange. Repeat until you love the room.
