They grow and grow and grow! You could always take cuttings if you want them shorter to start new plants. That's what I do.

I can wind it on something. Here in the outdoors its not nearly as fast growing as a greenhouse..so you only want to trim if you have to. I just haven't seen any photos of these things allowed to grow as large as they want. They must be fantastic in Florida or Hawaii. If anybody has pics of them draping a picker fence in Hawaii with red pitchers? I want to see THAT picture!

I had mine last summer grow up to ten feet, with multiple vines. In s. Florida, outside, running up a tree branch.

Several of you talk about the plant as if it is growing like that in one season. Is that the case? I have had mine for several years and they aren't reaching more than about 24" long. Also, as care for the plants change from year to year, I also find that some of my vines ended up dying (from dryness, I guess). So even those that are long, are dead.

So is it one season's growth or do you mean you have been having them like that for several years?

Mine are now going into their third summer with me.

BTW- We had near freezing temps and it did stress the plant. Its not as green..but nothing looks dead. 33f is a cold low. It was a close call. WE NEVER get cold like that this time of year.

Several years for the vine to lengthen. Depends on how bright and if you lightly feed the leaves.

The vines ran all the way down that branch, and one or two then looped back almost all the way back to the pot. Picture is taken at an angle, so that branch is about ten feet long past the pot.

That's what more heat can do. Maybe more humidity too.Although mine does pitcher..its just a slow process. Yep,those vines of yours have long spaces between nodes. Something I see...but those in greenhouse's tend to be shorter..at least when sold.Or,maybe cuttings start out compact..then get what we have.

Mine took a full blown 33f night. Only very newest leafs- still forming- were discolored. We will see if they outgrow that.

I would tell people one thing- NEVER let them go dry. If you kill them back in California you have a very long wait for them to recover. Other then that? No real problems. No pests-wink wink.

We are in the Sacramento area. I have one started as a baby and it got sunburned a bit and too dry (daughter didn't take care of it grrrr) and now it's barely there anymore and i so much want to nurse it back to health. It had darling little pitchers and now the leaves are yellowish and sad and it's barely still there. I have trimmed off where the little leaves went to brown/black. Holding out hope.....
