Hello, njkrx. I love the light that floods this room. I would say that you could keep the wall colors and just change the rug to one that’s darker and that accents the chair cushions a little better. The cabinet looks nice as is with your floors and table, but the light fixture could be more of a focal point.

IMO the white chairs need to some connection to something else in the space so I would paint the cabinet base and get rid of the top part.Take the clock downn they have no business in spaces where you entertain.Not sure why so many liquor cabinets and some larger brighter pieces of art. Just the table runner and the bowl on the table and take your china put it in the kitchen and use it everyday.

I love the blue and turquoise and white you have going on here. I agree with removing the clock and probably some of the odd stuff hanging on the walls that doesn't feel too cohesive. Simplify the table top. The china cabinet can stay or go white, either way, I think.

What would make the biggest difference here is a new chandelier. Something definitely not iron. Let me remove the one you have and then people can hang new ones in your room. Back in a bit.

A closer look tells me you could remove a lot of stuff from this space and make the stuff you keep here more visible.

Perhaps this room can provide you some inspiration a I find it very similar to yours. I suggest updating chandelier, head chairs if in budget. Drapes seem too casual for room and I feel should be hung higher than current ones. Some sheer linen would be nice. For the walls you could go with wallpaper. Grasscloth is a great look in dining rooms but there are more affordable options also. You can always wait until you update the room and decide if you want to paint hutch in the end because I think it’ll look great either way.

I agree with Patricia Colwell Consulting. The white chairs need to have something to relate to. I would get rid of the top half of the hutch. IMO it looks dated and crowds the room. Paint the bottom half white like the chairs. Then DECLUTTER! There are too many little objects to distract, on the walls and on the furniture. Raise the curtains to just under the moulding. The rug, while pretty, clashes with the chair fabric. Also loved Grover's white wood chandelier or perhaps one of the newer white beaded chandeliers. A large piece of art above the newly painted buffet would also be lovely and one nice centerpiece on the table. The wine could go in the bottom of the painted buffet if it needs to stay. If you really don't want to paint the hutch, perhaps you could put it in an office and store books and art objects in it and buy a white hutch to go with the chairs. The wine refrigerator on the other side would be better located in the kitchen. That said, you have some lovely pieces -- just need some tweaking. Good luck.

Thank you all for the great recommendations. I moved a few things. Still a work in progress. I decided to remove the art and declutter. I will move the wine too. I am removing the top portion of the hutch and painting the bottom piece a distressed white. The chandelier will be updated as well. Not sure what yet! I’ll raise the curtains but will need new since they will be too short once I raise them. What do you think of this centerpiece and the shabby chic K? Thanks so much! Much better centerpiece. The K isn't my thing--I tend not to care much for generic stuff--but it looks OK on the chest.

Removing the top of the china cabinet will really open up the room, I think.

Of course, now you need art and buffet lamps...

This looks great opened up and I do need a white chandelier. It makes a huge difference. I can always return the K. I wasn’t 100% sold on it! What kind of art do you suggest on top of the furniture? You are so helpful!

Wow! Great improvement, I love that you managed to do it with your old furniture. I think a console table and two lamps would look really good. What do you think of these two options? Two different styles, both would look great in your dining room!
