They are both so lovely! I have never been able to get BCS to grow well. As this plant has a great reputation, it may just not like my growing conditions. On the other hand, Cranberry Crush has been an excellent grower for me. It blooms readily, looks showy, and is now the largest violet in my collection. A deciding factor may be whether you prefer star blooms as in CC or pansy as in BCS. The blooms on my CC are quite large.

Never grown either, but going just on looks .... CC looks "cleaner" with regard to the flower colors. And while I like variegated leaves, the ones on BCS look quite drab -- though that could easily just be a fault of the lighting or camera used for that photo.

I agree Paul. I usually like most of the Buckeyes but here I like the Cranberry Crush due to the lighting of the picture. Probably not a true demonstration of color. By th r pretty

Aegis, maybe you could do what I hope to do for future violet acquisitions -- check the 'Winners' lists before making a decision! I know you're not buying or growing violets for exhibitions, but there's a reason those violets keep winning all the ribbons, right?

It's interesting to see the consistency of the varieties on the lists.

My experience concurs with a few on the lists ... Lyon's Red Rocket, Jersey Snow Flakes, Picasso, Ness' Crinkle Blue, and Pow Wow.

Also, it's worth noting that Blue Dragon, Buckeye Cranberry Sparkler, Funambule, and Rainbow's Quiet Riot are also on the lists ...

Wow. I had not seen this list before and had no idea that so many other peoples interests in AV's, paralleled my own. I think I have close to half of those on the list! I have been a big fan of the "buckeye" series of AV's and I have several.

Like all of us here, our tastes change from time to time. Mine have evolved to where I have a distinct preference for variegation. I have not added a plant to my shelves for a long time that did not hold some promise for variegation.

As a result, just going off the pics, I think I would gravitate toward the Buckeye since it appears to have a more prolific variegation pattern.

Cranberry Crush was a very slow grower for me. A bit fussy. When it finally bloomed, the color was wishy-washy. The plant never really took off.

As for the Buckeyes, they might do well for you. If you have had success with other Buckeyes, maybe try that.

Buckeyes do not do well for me in my part of the country.
