Fireplace is gorgeous!

Can you tell me what material you used to frame out just above the fireplace, and did you have any challenges in having texture adhere to it? We are told that 6" to 12" above this fireplace need to be non combustible, but our contractor is concerned that our planned application of Venetian plaster may not adhere to concrete board. Thanks!

Just above the fireplace are 20 gauge metal studs with the clearances prescribed by the fireplace manufacturer. Consult your local building codes for any further requirements. The wall above is veneer plaster on the existing backerboard (Blueboard or USG Durock)...consult also with the manufacturer of the plaster for appropriate backboard options for this application. I hope that this helps.
