Formal Living Room Help

Keeping wall color and sofa is currently a must. Would also like to keep the colorful pillows. Looking for advice on curtains/additional accent pillows, lighting, wall decor, etc. unfortunatel, I can’t do an area rug due to an aging pet at this time.

Can you post additional pics? Wondering if a different layout might work.

Yes! I actually already started playing around with the furniture. Thanks @er612!! You’re always so helpful!!

One more picture, please! A photo taken of the wall opposite the sofa wall would help. Do I see a fireplace hearth?

The new arrangement is much better! I would use the blue from the adjoining room as an accent color. Start with lighter curtains and matching throw pillows.

I would also move the floor lamp to the opposite wall behind the chair.

Here’s the fireplace wall as well. Looking for a larger, traditional painting here...but also open to hearing ideas about mantle decor

Some ideas for above your FP. I searched "Pictures above fireplace in Houzz photos". You can find lots of ideas there.

I really like the new furniture arrangement and er612's ideas using the softer blue. You might even think about adding a touch of yellow to reference your golden floors and lovely tray.

since i am nuts about pillows, that is the big thing i notice, they do not go together. they do not all need to match but they should unite in color or design which are your favorites? if it the ones with blue in them could i see a better picture?

Yes, I really like these and would like to incorporate them

The blue is navy and there are touches of emerald green and red of course. The gold is more “burlap” esqe.

On curtains.......please invest in a one inch diameter curtain rod that extends 10 - 12 inches beyond each side of the window.....also consider a lively pattern for your curtains in an accent color that you love and bring in lamps and or pillows that also have the same accent color and yes, hang curtains brackets all the way up to the ceiling.

Eight foot ceiling room, with one inch diameter rod hung to crown molding with roman shades...just showing this for scale in your room ceiling height.

The pillows you like are interesting but are out of sync with the rest of the room ...in style ...texture and color...is it worth changing other elements to make these pillows fit in?

i do agree with rita about the pillows, but i will do my best. I would do these 2 with the blue velvet towards the end, and the lumbar, mixd with yours

or just the blue velvet ones with the lumbar. hope it helps tell me what you are not interested in. they should be $25 or less.

Paint out the doors to reduce the choppy feel. More art would help. A combination of floor and table lamps will make the space more attractive and keep the ceiling from feeling dull.

Try to keep art close to SEATED EYE LEVEL. If ceilings are high, then you can hang two, levels of art.

We think adding gold and the blue in maybe even yellow will help. Here are a few images to get you started.
