Begonia ID?

Hello!

Can someone tell me what variety of begonia this is? I purchased this today and was told it was a Rex begonia.

How big are the leaves on your begonia? Hard to tell without a frame of reference. It looks similar to a plant I have that I believe is begonia Medora, or dwarf trout leaved begonia. The leaves on my plant are around 2-3 inches or so. The blooms are said to be reddish, however mine has not bloomed yet. I would be happy to get a confirmed id on my plant as well. Hopefully someone can help us both!

Hi Debbie! If you go into the House Plants forum, I had posted the same question in there with some helpful responses.

    Hi Lyzbett,

Thanks, I did see your post in the Houseplant Forum. Nice to get a confirmed I.d; I do like to give names to all my plants! Btw, that begonia is very prolific; mine was from a little cutting from last year. It roots very easily in water and I have started many slips to pass on to others. I'm hoping to see it bloom in the next few months.

Rosie, the first time I bought this plant was probably 35 years ago and the name given was Trout Leaf Begonia - HAHA! It would be another 15 years or so before I found out the true name (mainly due to the internet).

One year I bought this basket of 'Don Miller', 'Maurice Amey', and 'Medora' from Walmart of all places. Unfortunately mildew in winter killed them all. Take care of mildew and you can keep them over for the next year - wished I had known that a long time ago.

Another year I mixed it with Strawberry Kitten Tails - Chenille Plant (Acalypha repens/pendula)

It got kind of lost in this pot of Persian Shield, B. 'Sinbad', and Persicaria 'Red Dragon'.

The blooms are as large or larger than the leaves!
