You can do it! You really can! The issue is it will take a lot of your time and energy. You have to make the decision whether you're interested and have enough room for that added stress. If you hire a contractor make sure you vet them to ensure they actually are able to enforce a timeline and quality control better than you. Often they are, but sometimes you'll get that sheister! The other advantage they bring is they've done a few more of these projects than you so they know how to problem solve and address issues that may arise as well as solve design issues (if there are any).
