One more thing... as per previous info on this forum - I switched from regular potting soil to fir bark. The top dressing is red lava rock to maintain moisture for longer.

Check soil moisture, suspect it may be too wet for winter.

What do you use for fertilizer, how much and how often?

Did it start snowing these issues after you repotted it?

Laticauda- I probably used liquid miracle gro for houseplants - watered weekly weakly. But just in summer.

Embothrium- Ive been watering according to how the leaves look. Granted, it’s been different since the switch to bark. Now I give it a good soak in the sink since the medium doesn’t hold water as much as old soil did.

Laticauda- I switched the medium /repotted and moved location because of the purple leaf/ no flower issue. It seems to have improved things (I get flowers, more green, less purple) but it still needs tweaking.

You can try something with less nitrogen. I use an African violet fertilizer (with micronutrients) for my blooming plants. These prefer more moist conditions than typical succulents. When the medium (bark) dried, you can soak it for 5-10 minutes so the bark can absorb the moisture otherwise just the surface gets wet and it dries very quickly. I have this problem (drying too quickly) with my orchids in bark if I don't let the bark soak after it's dried out.

Thanks for the advice, laticauda and embothrium! I’ve often debated whether to use African violet fertilizer or reg houseplant. I’ll try the AV next time I fertilize.

I grow mine in orchid bark and this time of year I water once a week.

Ok - Karen- I’ll try taking the lava rock off. I added it as was suggested with the fast drying orchid bark which it’s planted in.

tommy- I pretty much do the same

I’ll try taking the lava rock off and see what happens- although my other Schlums seem happy with it. This plant is a unique individual and a mystery to me.
