Cattleyas do fine in the heat.

I'm in Sarasota and mine grow outside under trees on benches and on my lanai. They have been blooming their heads off for the last few months.

Heat, humidity and sun don't bother them at all.

The most bullet proof orchid that I'm aware of is terete vanda. Over the years, they have tolerated temps as low as high 20's and endure west sun at 100. I have them all over the yard including at my mailbox in west sun. They all thrive. They need water daily. And they need to grow on a surface that will allow them to climb. They like palmetto trees that grow in your area. I added an 8' 2 x 4 to my mailbox for climbing. They will not do well if they can't climb. You can cut the real tall ones and either replant in the same spot down at the bottom or plant it somewhere else. They provide beautiful flowers in the hot summer. Yearly, I cut a bunch and plant them in yards in the neighborhood. Tie them on trees. No wire that will kill the tree. Use string or anything that will decompose. In time they will cling to the trees.

There are some heat tolerant Cymbidiums and also some hybrids from them which probably have some heat tolerance as well. They will flower without needing a period of cold. But the majority of Cymbidiums sold aren't heat tolerant.

@Bea, f you want something "different" and like fragrant flowers and is easy to grow, try a couple of stanhopea's .Planted in a wire basket with coco liner and sphagnum moss (loose) hanging with the vandas as the flower spike will emerge from the bottom of the basket. If you like vandas try a neofinetia falcata, small plant but very charming. Google the stanhopea to see what specie you may like, there are many available and some exceptonal clones are very $$$$. Mostly though are very fair prced.
