I need suggestions on updating this old fireplace. The wood on the ceiling ends at the edge of the copper flashing, so i would think it would be easiest to keep the shape of that hood unless someone can think of a better solution. Also my dad built the house and custom made the copper hood. I don't particularly like the way it looks on the fireplace but I'm open to other uses for it if there are any. Here's a picture of my kitchen for a look at a small sample of the style of the place. New floors will be installed. Thanks
