You have a lovely kitchen!

The optimal solution for the kitchen/food prep area is recessed lighting which will require a contractor/electrician. Under cabinet lighting is also really great for food prep. That route will be a bit on the pricey side, but it will be super functional and clean looking.

Track lighting is a less disruptive and expensive option. It's a pretty easy DIY if you're at all handy and know where your circuit breaker is. The nuisance I encountered with track lighting is that they are cob web magnets!

Thank you so much for the complement and the advice. I didn't think of track lighting. It would be a less disruptive option. Would you recommend if I did track lighting in brush nickel to also get a brushed nickel fixture for the breakfast nook area. My family room has a beige/grey/brown fireplace as well as wood beams on the ceiling. I'm not sure what to do. What do you think? My kitchen table in the breakfast nook is below.

You don't have to worry about matching the finishes of the track lighting to your kitchen nook lighting. In fact, if you go with a brushed nickel for the track, an iron or oiled bronze would look nice, in that it would reference the black in the appliances and counter tops.

I think a simple drum would work very well with the simplicity of your kitchen table. The fabric will soften the hard angles. Area rug is optional - they can be a pain to vacuum under dining tables - but they do offer some decor opportunities.
