Thank you for your response. I would love to do such a job, however that table and chairs were $6,000 and my husband will not like me to fiddle around and try something new with it ...lol...especially because I'm trying to sell the table

you already have a pretty good jump start on this room. Some 'farmhouse' type elements on the blank wall or something between the windows (antique piece, a chalkboard, artwork, small buffet, mirror,,,,etc) would be all you need. work on selling your current set and bring in the new one would be best. In the meantime, peruse pictures of modern farmhouse dining rooms and see what you like.

for instance, a similar mirror like this might look nice between the windows,,,if there is enough room for a console or antique buffet, but that there as well.

OK nix the idea about painting the $6000 table and chairs. They are a little formal to be considered farmhouse. Consider the following:

As suggested above, add a upholstered bench centered under the shelf wall. Line up the front edge of the bench with the edge of the table. Keep two chairs on either end and two chairs opposite the bench. Add quaint throw pillows on the bench like needlepoint or quilted.

Look for farmhouse accessories such as a printed burlap seed bag to use as a table runner and white ceramic vases and dishes. For art, consider vintage farm animal paintings in large walnut frames. Hang your chalkboard over the server on the opposite wall.

I have been using all kinds of china closets in kitchens and libraries in my projects. Very easy to find, some for free, as no one wants them anymore. Cut off any decorative pediment on top of the cabinet and change the hardware to something simple. In between the windows is a good idea and you can paint that cabinet anything: Here's where you can whitewash, or a color (farmhouse red with a grey or brown painted interior. The last pic is amazingly an Ikea Billy bookcase with two sconces on either side.

Omg....thank you for the awesome idea...i actually have a nice bench with upholstery I can use..one thing...im not sure if the pic of my table shows well, but it's a bar height table....

I will start looking into using that bench though....looove the idea!!! So happy because my room size is actually small and looking at my photo I posted...it is very deceiving and looks bigger... I can use a bench to utilize that space better .....but can't do that until I get a regular height table still. I will look for a chalk board . Do you think it will go better over that small island thingy or between the two Windows?

So happy you have given me somegreat ideas and I love the billy book case idea....but I've never seen a billy with glass...im gonna to look that up right away...i fear i dont have that much space. My dining room is only 12 x 12

China cabinets are usually 48" to 60" wide and not very deep, so I think it wouldn't be a problem for anything to fit between the windows. Painting a reused piece of furniture will give you a good farmhouse feel. Don't be afraid to experiment yourself.

Was not aware that the table and chairs were bar height. The answer is most likely no, but can you talk your husband into have the table and chairs cut down? The table base would have to be cut at the column, keeping the frame and the top and bottom of the base intact. You need to have a carpenter cut it down so that all is even. Sounds easy, but speaking from experience, it's not.

It's always good to update and reuse what we have and give it a new life. I understand it was expensive, but what will you do with the table and chairs once you get something to replace it?

Really love the flooring, wall finish and lighting so far! The space is coming together quite nicely. A mirror between the windows would look nice but on the other hand so would some art as well. Why not maybe put art between the windows and a mirror over the wooden storage on the right hand side of the room?

Yes come to think of it... I definitely need some greenery in there. Would you put something on all the walls? The one behind the table already has a huge shelf. If not which wall would you say to out something on if I only did one?
