I agree these roman shades are just not attractive. What about some beautiful panels with drapery rings - they could be any color or pattern with a black-out lining?

You could mount the hardware either directly on the wood just under the crown detail, or on the wall right next to the side trim and use an extendable bracket. That would give you a cleaner more elegant look, and it would create one unified visual presentation of that window wall as well since the panels would basically run floor to ceiling.

Hi Karen, thanks for the idea, I thought about drapery. My preference would be something simple, airy & modern. I like Roman shades, but not these.

I wouldn't hang rods on woodwork. Not the right place plus not as easy to patch the holes as in walls. There doesn't look like there's enough for stacking, either.

If you're going custom, you can get romans made in a lighter, pretty fabric that will fit the arches better. They can look very attractive with the right fit and fabric.

You won't find these in readymades tho.

I realize they'll have to be custom made. Yes, I'd prefer lighter pretty fabric that only covers the window & arches, blocks light and doesn't cover the window frame, which is quite attractive. Can they securely attach the romans you think? Looks like the existing ones were attached with staples :)
