I see nothing in your two pictures that convinces me you should be doing farmhouse style. Return the fan.

you prob should have hung a fan more along this style to go w/the medallion and plaster trim. the one you have is more industrial and does not work w/your style home.

to be honest, that medallion needs a beautiful chandelier. get a floor fan if you need one.

and yes, you want the trim to show. that's some beautiful plaster work and should be highlighted. do a soft white and paint the walls a contrasting color so it shows.

these blues would really be pretty with the white trim,,,you could do a light blue ceiling

A ceiling fan is just wrong for that room. Look at that trim and medallion?! It needs a nice chandelier, not a fan.
