Where do you order your veggie seeds from?

I know this is probably a question that gets asked a lot but since my search results show mostly threads started 10+yrs ago I wanted to ask again. This year is my first year growing mostly from seed. While more time consuming than starts its much more cost effective and worth it to me. I have always bought my seeds from the local garden centers but they don't usually have very exciting varieties available so I wanted to know where people order their seed from?

I would love somewhere that specializes in uncommon or heirloom varieties or stellar hybrids that are able to preform well and taste good. I already have a few trays of seedlings that I started this week (from garden center seed) but wouldn't mind ordering a few more to put out for the growing seasons. I am interested in almost all edibles but specifically beans, peppers (hot and sweet), asparagus (prefer crowns but not opposed to seed), garlic, onions, and Asian-type veggies. I still need for this growing season Asparagus and Garlic (hoping a large clove variety) but I am sure I will end up spotting a few others that need to jump in my cart/garden.

During my 40+ years of gardening I have ordered from many seed companies. I've found that most established companies offer good seeds and or plants. Look at the number of years in business. If they don't offer a good product and service they wouldn't be in business long because there is no shortage of companies offering the same things. Many offer free shipping if you order a certain amount. I live in Canada so the seed companies I order from are Canadian. Stokes,. T+T, Lindberg, OSC, and Veseys and I buy some McKenzie seeds at my garden center. I don't buy from each company each year but sometimes 1 has a particular plant I want that the others don't carry so I rotate between them.

I have ordered from Park seeds in the USA too but right now the exchange rate is too high. I have never been disappointed in any of them and they all give good service

My last couple of orders have been through Hummert. I went with them because they had the Purple Hull Pea variety I wanted and a decent selection of heirloom Tomatoes. http://www.hummert.com/

I'm on the other side of the country from you so I order seeds from a local one, Johhnyseeds.com (in Maine). I know the seeds are hardy here. They have a huge selection of veggies and a great catalog.

When ordering plants, I have been disappointed in plants grown in warm climates down south, so I stick to northern grown plants.

For flower seeds that I can't find locally, I do a google search for it and find a place that has those seeds and then do my homework about whether the company's reliable. Sometimes I take a chance and I've never been disappointed except for wildflower companies. Their seeds are iffy.

Over the years I've ordered from Johnny's, Baker Creek, High Mowing, Seed Savers, Victory Seeds, SeedsNow!, neseed, Artistic Gardens, Tradewinds, Renee's Garden Seeds, and Pinetree Seeds. Pinetree is the company I've used the longest, over 20 years now.

I ended up ordering a variety of bean seeds from Victory Seeds, I like that they are local and hope that their seeds will preform well for me. Thank you for your suggestions! I will keep them on the list for next year!

I order mostly from Johnny's selected seeds but have also ordered from Totally Tomatoes, Park, Harris, Jungs, and Reimer. Reimer is one to stay as far away from as possible for multiple reasons.

Regarding Andy's Asparagus, there is only one review for them on Garden Watchdog and it is negative. I also remember seeing some other bad reviews on them somewhere but can't remember where that was. My last asparagus order was for 2 different purple varieties of 2 year crowns from Nourse Farms in 2016 and I was very pleased. This will be the first year to harvest some. Debruyn seed has the best asparagus prices I've seen. I've ordered seed potatoes from them once and the quality was excellent but I've not ordered gus from them.

You will want to wait until fall to plant garlic. There are several garlic vendors in the PNW you can order from and get seed garlic acclimated to your conditions. Fillaree farms is one that has a nice selection of varieties.

I've used MIgardener the last 2 years. Everything is 99c although you do pay a few bucks for shipping too, so I only order when I want like 10+ packets. Happy with the seed counts too - usually an appropriate quantity for 2-4 years for a home gardener.

If I just want a few new things, I'll just buy from Lowes or HD. Or Dollar Tree for 25c a packet. They don't put many seed in each packet but sometimes that's fine.
