Visiting the site often and taking lots of pictures with camera and my drone. Putting progress on Instagram for family members to follow. @TheHillsideHaven. Also have two time lapse cameras recording the build from front and back of he build.

We also have Instagram and I’m keeping a blog. I’m making a shutterfly book too. I add pictures and comments every month or so. A friend told me a fabulous idea for taking the blue prints and framing them later and having them be office art. Love it.

I have thousands of pictures of the building process, as I was on-site the entire time. I posted several nice, long build threads on various forums, only to lose them in the great photobucket debacle. I always planned to have a photo book made of the entire process- I really need to do that some day. I guess I could re-do my build thread (in Smaller Homes), since it's easy to post pics in GW, but it sure would be a lot of work!

I am going to set up a new instagram before we break ground. For those who are instagramming, check out Chatbooks. I use them for my regular account. Super easy and the books are great.

My wife kept a journal and took pictures during a remodel we did back in 1995. A few years later we noticed some water damage to the roof decking due to having a low pitch roof this area. We contacted the contractor and showed him journal entries where we'd discussed with him our concerns with the roof properly draining in this area. They came out and fixed it, no charge to us.

We have a blog and I'm very tentatively stepping into Instagram. It's more a journal than a proper website and something we wanted to be able to share with family that live across the country.

Lots and lots of pictures. I’ve started an album here on Houzz (a little late in the process though) and update it periodically.

Ktdh.....thanks (and you’re welcome). I love to share with others and throughly enjoy seeing the progress and choices of everyone else (I wish people would post more!). It’s all very helpful and inspiring. I’ve gleaned a lot here (although unfortunately some of what I’ve learned has come too late....I was too far down the road in my build to make use of some of the information).

Nidnay, the entire house is absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to see it with furniture. The little hummingbird hose fixture pushed me right over the edge.

I started a build blog to chronicle the build for friends and family never thinking it would go beyond entertainment value, but it has been invaluable to our build process. I would visit the site every weekend and take as many pictures as I could, many making it into the blog. The rest are archived on an external hard drive and backed up on a secondary drive. I've had to reference these pictures numerous times to confirm the placement of mechanicals and point out issues with the build. Most importantly, when we had to divorce our previous builder due to lack of production (after two years on the job), he tried to demand money from us saying he was 80% to drywall, with no mechanicals installed. I told him Google his name and look at the second link, which referenced my chronological blog that had his name plastered all over it. He quickly backed down and we got him off the build and construction loan.

We installed blocking in all the bathrooms to install future grab bars, so the numerous pictures and walk through videos will help me locate them when time comes to install. Early in the build, I used a remote control quad copter to take areal photos and caught a horribly misplaced footing, saving thousands in repairs. When I'm older, I'll be able to use the library of photos to bore/punish our kids with the days of glory when their mom and dad built the very house they're living in. I can test the mettle of my daughters' future boyfriends by droning on about every minute detail of the house build. It will be glorious.
