There was once an overpowering and outdated mantel here. We demoed the mantle and the accompanying outdated surrounding tile, had it smoothed and painted a "chill" gray and love the new look it gives. But we are torn over what to do with the remaining slab of exposed concrete that is now an eyesore and how to complete the overall picture so that we minimize any bulk (no more ornate mantels) and keep with the streamlined/contemporary look we are aiming for.
