Look at dual hand held showers as you will not be able to do the type you are showing without redoing the tile.

You can go to Home Depot or Lowe’s and get a handheld shower head to replace that standard one. It’s a real simple switch - I did it on all the builder basic shower heads in my condo.

That’s what they said. Delta makes a head called In2ition, or something similar. That should meet your needs.

no. you need the valve to be installed during the plumbing phase to have that separate hand held fixture work. you can't just drill into the tile.

My husband added an adjustable removable shower to our bathrooms. Our home was built in 1951 and has original tile. You can drill thru tile. We’ve done this a few times including a log cabin. Go to Lowes or a plumbing store. It works off the shower head. Of course you are paying the builder.

Just because someone did it does not make it right. Get a plumber on your own and see what your options are before doing anything.

You can drill through tile to hang a bar or extra shower head that is attached to the first one. But you can not add what you show above because it needs a mixer valve and it's own water supply and you can not add that without taking down the tile.

You could look at adding something like this made by Grohe. It is intended as a retrofit and the diverter is built-in at the bottom of the bar. Kohler also makes a version as well as others. But I would stick with a major brand.
