Wall decor in dining room

Hi, so i just had a designer help with my wall decor but not sure if I’m liking it. When I ordered the artwork it didn’t look like a mirrored piece and it’s showing reflection of my cabinets which is annoying. Also I dont think there is enough spacing between the 3 mirrored pieces.

Also what do you think of the brown accent pieces? Too much?

I can return these items back to designer.

You can get some Rub & Buff in antique gold and you just rub this cream on and wipe it off. Get on Amazon. But you can wait on that til you decide on your look. You can mix golds and silvers too which I did with the pieces I selected for your accessories on the cabinets. 😄

Here is Rub n Buff. I think they have some combos too with various metal shades.

I would love to create a gallery on my stairway wall but how do I accomplish this with the moldings 😩

Ok thanks about the rub and buff and yes I like to mix metals as well 😊

I would figure out which photos:pictures you want to hang and create interesting approach mostly ignoring moldings. I thought you got rid of those?

Never removed them. Should I? Is this a big job to do?

See how the framed pieces to fit spaces.

Removing isn’t hard but repairing walls and repainting is not cheap. I would try to work with it.

Since I have two moldings in each frame would you put the pictures within the 2 moldings or overlapping the inner molding if that makes sense. I don’t even know where to start

Use command strips to hang your pics, especially if you're not sure about placement.

Are the walls flat? Or textured? We start with gathering all pictures you want displayed and see what we have to work with. Then, we determine placement and get framing coordinated. We can experiment by doing mock ups. We need good photos of the wall taken as straight on as possible so we can try mock ups.

The walls are flat with the moldings over it.
I will work on gathering pictures and will take photos of the wall tomorrow and post. Thank you 😊

Good idea shirlpp about using command strips.

This sounds like a great use of your stairway!

Flo, can you send me the link to this art that you posted? Thank you

It’s from Ballards Designs. I thought the 36” c 36” was good size for your space. But you need to verify. 20% off one item sale right now.

Thank you. Do you the art from Ballard will blend with my dining room since there is no gold?

I also came across these as well. What do you think? I need to incorporate rate some blue for color though

  • PRO

Those would work and you could find some blue vases for top of consoles.

Which do you like better for my house? Ballards art set or the pair I just posted for my house?

I like the blues in the Ballards. Everything else in these rooms is pretty neutral so that is what I would do. But I love blues! I like them as strong players and supporting colors. Here is our dining room and great room.

Wow your rooms are gorgeous and I love scenic art but I don’t think it would look good on each side of fireplace right?

Also if I go sign the art from Ballard how do I tie in the golds so I coordinate with dining room?

  • PRO

You add simple gold accessories. Here are just a few at low prices. Just accessorize your consoles. That’s all you need

    Hi,
So I ordered the neural flowers for now and they are coming tomorrow. I’m curious to see how they look and price point was better.
I’ll let you know how I like them and then maybe you can help me with decor to incorporate some blue.

The Ballard Design artwork will be back in stock in 2 weeks so I may order those as well before
    Making a decision.

    Sounds like a plan!

I received the art from wayfair today and I personally think it’s too big for the size of wall and accent cabinet but It does come in various sizes. However does the room look blah and colorless or will decor change that? I’m not sure if it’s the size throwing me off or not.

I’m also adding a pic of dining room so you can see the flow of the rooms.

    Thoughts please.

Do you have any artists you are particularly drawn to even well-known ones? Have you just looked at various artworks and found yourself falling in love with a piece? I always recommend not buying art as decor but buying art as a passion. You could take your time and find things you love! Each side can be different if you find things you love, maybe a large picture on one side and a limited gallery wall on the other side. Don't think "something for the walls"; rather think "what am I crazy about?"

I love scenic pictures but how will I blend it with my dining drool decor since they are near each other?

  • PRO

For inspiration. I hung the art and put some blue and white accessories. I think these can work but I much prefer more color. But I understand your budget constraints. But look for art that has some color that work with dining room. Hope this helps.

Note I switched the rose to the left because I think the other flower works better with dining room.

I feel like some greenery is needed so I put a topiary on the hearth in basket for plants on the hearth. Here is pillow I used and the vases.

I decided to return the art. I feel like it makes my room look blah. I agree that we need some color.

I think that’s a good decision. Do you like the Ballard one, except for pricing? Do you like the blues? I am sure we can find options to look at. Just give some further input on colors and styling. I think doing something different style wise from dining room but complimentary would be great.

I would definitely like to incorporate blues in my living room. I think the Ballard artwork is pretty. I V live scenic pics like landscapes, water, etc but not sure if this will look good

After looking at the 2 art pieces, it might be a bit much to have both. Maybe consider something else for the wall(s), like metal wall art.

Maybe a scenic abstract piece of art might work. You are teetering on glam with those florals.

Do you know about UNSPLASH? It is a site where photographers (of various talents and talent levels) upload high quality images they have taken. Anyone is welcome to use them. There are thousands in all subject areas. You can download what you like and have it printed on any material that appeals to you. I put in the search bar the word "blue" and these came up: https://unsplash.com/s/photos/blue

Hi shirlpp, I just feel like I need some color in this room so not sure if metal decor will do the trick but I’m going to try a bunch of ideas that are suggested and we can see what looks best

Hi Aphaea, I never heard of this site but will check it out now. Thank you so much for the info

I’m thinking about doing mirrors. What do you guys think? Here are some styles.

These shapes might please the eye along with DR art... I say that partly because there are visuals of wood trim and tables and lighting already. I think this would look 'lite' if you see through to the wall color... hardly there.

I love mirrors but they will do nothing for your room. Stuck with art. I am very busy right now, but I will keep eye out. I am thinking. Bbl

i'd have to chime in and say the art you have from way fair is scaled right and will flow well. also helps to give the eye something other than the tv to look at. mirrors will only reflect the wall to the stair case not much to help unify a room.

I think you really should call in your contractor and talk built-in's with him. I know, I know, you were dissuaded before, but I think they will give you what you want in your living area(colorful accessories and photos of your children displayed).

Yes, they would be built around your beautiful cabinets.

Flo, so you don’t think mirrors with a vase that has blue flowers and other decor on cabinet will suffice?

RL, do you think that artwork was blah? For me the size was too big but they have smaller

Shirlpp, how can they build around my accent cabinets?

  • PRO

The problem with mirrors is they won’t reflect anything pretty. No chandelier — just wall across staircase. Have you thought about alarmed art over left cabinet and over the right side perhaps a shadow box with a small companion art. Have fun with this. Here is combo.

Of course you'd want to discuss with your contractor, but this link has suggestions. You have specific needs for your home and IMO you have to be practical.

Agree the scale, shape and symmetry of the wayfair framed wall decor if off. I would refrain from any more symmetry on this wall.

    Suggest:

    • Gallery black and white photos that have meaning to you on right console w/large vase and green stems.
    • Round convex mirror on left w/interesting lamp.
    • Would also suggest if possible to scoot your tv down so cords are not visible and as close to mantel as possible.

What is the history on the white wainscoting from DR transitioning to wall color in family room?
